I'm trying to identify the keywords for my local business and was hoping to get some advice.

Lets just say i'm a plumber in austin, texas for this scenario. Would I still target "plumber" and "plumbing services" as my main keywords on the homepage and than target "plumber in austin, texas" and "plumbing services austin, texas" in my other pages?

Or because i'm a local business would I need to make "plumber in austin, texas" and "plumbing services austin, texas" my main keywords?

thanks in advance

Plumber in Austin, TX will work better then just Plumber, which is too general.

But note that if you have the keyword "Plumber in Austin, TX", then the word plumber is in it anyway.

So yes use a combination of services + location as keywords, so that Google know these are your specifics, instead of just service.

You should primarily go for “intent keywords” as well as long tail keywords+geo as well as main keywords+geo combinations.

Don’t forget about on-page and proper topic clusters to allow seamless flow of link juice into your inner pages, which works wonders when combined with off-page link building efforts.

When you say topic clusters can you explain that a little bit? Do you mean have the homepage organized in a way where the main topics are on the homepage and than each topic linking to inner pages on the site?
