Google snippets first, then now with their current AI implementation of Google search.

They can basically display all info and question based queries from sites directly with in their AI with out the user ever needing to visit the site.

They should at least populate the related search or recommended sites beneath the answer to those of the site that they took the answer or info from.

If they are taking answer from site A and directly displaying the whole answer/info to the user while displaying other "sites"/ads beneath the answer, then they are using site A's data as they please and the moment you want to scrape google or do anything grey hat then there is all sorts of "Terms" and "Policies".

Glad that EU is always Hard on these powerful online corporations.

I didn't even read what you wrote, but as a lifelong passionate hater of google I can answer the question in your title without reading a single word of what you wrote. So...

google gets away with it (whatever "it" means) as they always do: by 99% of their users not caring about what google does, and the 1% of users that care are too few to make google feel threatened in any way

Now, onto reading your comment...

The EU will save you! You will be happy and own everything. Or wait was it youll be sad and own everything? Or something else. I forget! Anyway they will save you!
You'll own nothing and you'd be happy. A funny quote, I wonder who coined it.

But I'm really hoping on the EU to save the day. They're the only major political/gov block that's serious about excesses of tech giants. The US is literally sold out to money and lobbyists.

There's no reason why Google should be allowed to literally steal content, post and monetize it. While the 'original' owner gets nothing in cash or traffic.

Is there any chance on EU banning/blocking Google's generative AI crap?

At least we still have Google Discover traffic
Wait till Google starts showing their AI generated erotic web stories on discover instead of sites.

Google just wants to expand their consumer base. Webmasters are just the current means to achieve their goal. When they don't need us, they'll discard us (it has already started).

I heard they are planning to marking Content which was created by AI, so it's not viewed as Facts. But there will be a lot of Problems because of false negatives, for sure. They will blame it on Google or any other platforms would be my guess.

There are a lot of Copyright Rules in the EU. Only a matter of time until they mark AI Content as Spam. They want people to know what is AI Generated and what is not. Seems like the correct approach
I would rather have AI generated content banned entirely.
We're losing our human touch on everything around us. Someone has to put a stop to this.
I want human content making it back on the SERPs again.

To be completely honest with you, I think it would be enough to mark Content as AI Generated. That way, it will be viewed as less desirable and will decrease in ranking organically. It would do the Job.

It could just be the start of an invisible battle between humans at work vis-a-vis machines at work. I loathe the whole AI thing that is taking away jobs across the spectrum, and changing technology in a way that the inventor of technology, which is the humans, are being made to follow the norms of the machines.

That is neither smart, nor desirable.
