New one-click install I'm working on for a local WP copy so you don't have to set up WAMP and still install/configure WP afterwards. Install, double-click the icon and you're ready to run. Runs on XP/Vista.

Setup install PW: BetaTester

WP Admin Login:
u:Admin
p:password

Sorry for trolling but what purpose does a WP Web Server serve?

It sets up a WAMP server on your local machine, preconfigured for WordPress. Basically use it to test out stuff before deploying to your live sites. It's aimed at n00bs and IM'ers who aren't used to setting it up for themselves.

Looking around on other forums, there are a lot of people who are either just starting out and have no idea what WP who want to try it out before getting hosting, installing stuff, etc. This lets them try it out like a normal Windows app.

web server to run wordpress?

Code:
WordPress Web Server is a self-contained Windows application with an Apache web server, MySQL database server, and PHP processor, tightly bound together by a built in web browser.
When you launch the application, it immediately fires up the web and database servers, and opens up your WordPress web site, without you having to do anything more than double-click on the desktop icon!
You can do anything on this WordPress site that you'd be able to do on a 'real' website, including installing new themes, testing out new plugins, or adding pages, blog posts or images and videos.
Best f all, when you're done, all you need to do is close the browser window, and it takes care of all the housekeeping like shutting down the web and database servers!
It's like running any other program! As easy as double-click, and you're up and running in no time at all!

Basically it means once you install it on your PC and run it, it will create a wordpress site on your local server(PC) for you to install and check wordpress.

isn't it.

Almost, except WP is already installed. So as soon as you launch the app, it opens up WP and you can start working.

If I've missed something I am sorry but what is the wp login password. I can't see it! Forget this first part of my post I found it right before my eyes once you install and open the webserver the answer is right on the front page lol. Silly me.

Thanks for this. A real easy way to install locally.

Many thanks for this - came at just the right time as my usual WAMP had stopped doing its thing (something to do with the ESET firewall I think but no amount of tinkering with that had any effect).

Everything works as it should. Just the one error, on the plugins page:-

The plugin wordpresswebservercore.php has been deactivated due to an error: The plugin does not have a valid header.

:o

Thank you! My first visit and found a gem right off the bat.

Is this a 7 day trial copy or ?

Terry

I've downloaded the file. Will give it a try and see how it goes.

Whoops! My bad. Thanks for letting me know.
Corrected and the latest version has it fixed.

This one will expire when WP 3.0 comes out, but BHW testers get it free (send me a PM).

WOW! What a wonder tool. I am always working on themes and plugs. This is exactly what I have needed for years.

Thank you for sharing. Sending you a pm.

I downloaded the file from the version 1.02 link but the file says it is version 1.01? I have the wordpressservercore.php error too. Where does one find the updated file?

I have been using this software and love(ed) it.

Assuming that beta testers here only got a trial copy? Started it up this morning and got the message license.dat has expired.

Please let me know. Would have contacted you at your site, but there is no info under your support area. Noop so can't P-M
