Meta refresh link in email - will referrer show?

I'm pretty sure it's safe to do this but can anyone confirm?
If I put a link to one of my sites in an email and I use a meta refresh, will my aff have any way of knowing the user originally came from an email or will they just see my site as the referrer?

I use it with website to website stuff and never have a problem, I just wasn't sure if it would work the same with email.
Can you expand on that?

It should clear the headers. To be safe just do a double meta refresh which is meta refresh page 1 -> meta refresh page 2 -> affiliate
From what I've seen the newer IE browsers clear headers on any redirect php, js, or meta. But Firefox only clears on meta refreshes. I suggest installing "Live Headers" and testing it for yourself on as many browsers/versions as you can to be safe.

Based on my research, meta-refresh seems to work about 99% of the time. So no, meta-refresh is not 100% reliable. If you really want to hide your referrers then create a landing page first where the visitor has to click on your affiliate link from your domain name. That insures no referrer leaks.

wohz.. offercloak is relevant to this thread. if not then idk what it would be relevant to lol. just because i run the service doesn't mean it's not completely reasonable to suggest it to people who are obviously looking for a referral cloaking solution. and meta refreshing does suck.. if its just 1 meta refresh it will leak and meta refreshes are a sloppy way to redirect all together. even if i had no interest in the company i would still be recommending it in this way. im really surprised my post got deleted from this thread.

The answer is yes your referral data will be leaked and who ever is looking will be able to see were the traffic is coming from.

meta/double meta should work fine. That's how I do it.

Still will see some leaks with this method as well


As for Jaeden's post it was not spam it was as related as it could have Possibly gotten he plugged a cloaking solution that is the exact solution to the question that was asked

the question was ask a solution was given. it was no wear near unnecessary or unrelated

I would think most email services and clients would not allow a meta-refresh in the message and if they did it would probably cause a spam flag to go off... Why not put a link in the message to a php script that does a Location: header that redirects to another php script that does a header meta-refresh? There, just saved you 29$/mo

Because you didn't answer the question. You offered your service. How does that answer a question?

In one instance its not spam, but when every thread becomes filled with it and false information is given (saying "meta sucks for this") to push your product, it becomes classified as spam.

I would be curious to see some links of past post were you have seen us plugging our services that is not directly related to it

offercloak probably offers a fine solution. Never looked at the site...even after seeing it many times throughout BHW. meta/double meta has always been good enough for my needs.

I think the problem, and the reason the spam term has been used, is because this is a thread in a free "help and discussion" type of sub-forum. The deleted post offered no helpful direction or discussion...just a plug for a particular product. If the post had given some helpful instruction about how to hide the referrer in an email link thru cloaking, then there wouldn't be a problem.

It does kinda seem like trying to BST in a non-BST area. A lot of people here have websites that may be useful to others. But if every thread was answered with a plug to the poster's own product...then that would be a pretty sh!tty forum. If you wanna leave a plug to your site everywhere you post, then post real answers, and rely on the link in your sig.

I said the quantity of the plugs (relevent to the post or not) and the misleading information that your giving ("meta sucks for this"). You are not offering a solution, your offering a service, at a price that is not worth it when people are offering free advice and permanent solutions. This is why people pay a bst price and allowed to post a BST thread in the BST SECTION of the forums. If you pay the fee, that doesnt give you full rights to post your plug all over this site. It takes up enough space as it is and when free information is at a premium on this site, the last thing I want to see if someone repeating the same shit in every post they make, put it in your sig, and leave it there for christs sake.

I am half tempted to create an offercloak clone and offer it free of charge at this point.

maybe offercloak is better than the free solutions because of the extra features and the fact that ours is a known service to the networks, that provides networks with a guide for why you are cloaking your referrers. maybe because its always being improved. maybe its the 7 days a week live support. maybe someone asking questions about cloaking their referrers would like to know about such a service. i think this is reasonable.

Its apparent that even the moderators see your posts as spam and free plugs to get people to use your service, even though its not necessary for the original poster when free solutions are readily available on the forums. Stick to the BST section.
