It has some insane stats: https://www.thedonutwhole.com/

How on earth do people grow sites like this? I'm sure they know something I don't.

Can someone reverse engineer this and give me some insights? Always looking to learn.

There’s another website I’ve been following - and its ranking for almost 1m keywords since created in 2019-2020. Pretty insane - thanks for the share.

Well...

1. They clearly acquired this domain after it expired and it already had a decent amount of backlinks from high authority sites. (It was previously used as the domain for a prominent Donut Shop in Witchita Kansas)

2. They did some keyword research and put together a list of high-volume keywords that had very little competition.

3. They flooded the site with content for all those keywords.

4. Then they continued to build more backlinks, from the looks of it - through HARO (business insider, wikipedia, msn, nbc, do-follow links) or a pretty pricey intermediary backlink provider.

tlldr;

✅ Acquired an aged domain with nice existing backlink profile
✅ High volume/low difficulty keywords targeted
✅ Flooded the site with content for these keywords
✅ Substantial backlinks built from additional high-authority domains

...and the cherry on top:
✅ Highly relevant exact match domain name (to the majority of initial keywords they probably targeted)

This person/agency knows what they're doing and has probably done this before.

It's all there.

It looks like someone has used a Link building software like GSA long before Google started to penalize irrelavant links. I have checked the link juice, and most of the links are dead in real life but still indexed by Google.

Now I'm hungry for donuts, lol.

Looks like they also made a lot of local SEO content, "Best 18 Donut shops in [Town, State]"

Homepage articles look manually written, as well many look like PAA+AI...
I would never guess that, so many people search for Donut related stuff.

I would guess - first of all good choice for a niche + good aged domain + mix of human/AI content & good backlink strategy.

May be the power of expired domain or the power of backlinks
