Are they dumbing down Chatgpt For people who are using it freely or are they dumbing it down for google! and competitors.

It is as if they are playing "Never let them know your next move" type of dumbing down.

In the first days it was answering all the questions better, now a days, it just randomly throws these "Oh, I forgot, Oh, sorry for the overlook!" Loops!.

May be it is Human psychology and the expectations that magnified the answers or may be they are seriously dumbing it down for some reasons.

Any one using the paid version, Is GPT 4 UP ? and is it instantly available after upgrading or it still has some wait time and country/place related wait times ?

Short answer is yes, lot of people are complaining about this in the developer forum.
Why don't you get chatgpt plus?

Normal GPT 3.5 was fine for my use case in the early days, But now it is getting more and more un usable for my use case which has not changed. ( I use it for slight edits in coding ).

This is what I would like to know, If Chatgpt Plus means I would get instant GPT 4 access or if there is still a wait time, When I just checked the playground to do some tests of GPT 4, it says that version is no longer available

The second your transaction goes through, you get access / the only downside is that GPT 4 only allows 25 generations per 3 hours.

It's too fast. AI is evolving but GPT 4 is unstable yet. Mostly 3.5 is workable there

You will get instant access 25 per 3 hours is more then you need unless you need api and bulk usage in that case use devinchi 3

I think it's more reliant on prompts these days. Before I could just say "do this" and I'll get great outputs. Lately I have to be really specific what kind of outputs I'm looking for. I also see this slightly on GPT4 API, but with the right set of prompts and clear instructions, it's just as good as before.

I wish OpenAI would at least keep us updated on these changes instead of constantly guessing.

The limitations on gpt4 on promoting for $20 or so dollars for 25 prompts is just gawd awful.

I applaud open AI to getting us here, but relying on gpt4 when what you really want is co-pilot code assistant on GitHub(but to get it's not easy unless you have a free .edu email)

Overall AI is advancing but as of now I question open AI business model(especially when Elon musks just sitting behind watching) because gpt4 very costly to run, and yes it's free in bings assistant but don't expect better results it's so downgraded to the point it's horrendous.

I just use the API and can continuously call throughout the day. I've only run into rate limit issues a few times. I usually get access to the new releases same day (it was crazy seeing people wait so long for gpt-4).

Anyone here tried Alpaca** before Stanford redacted some of the code? Worth trying imo. Still use gpt most of the time.

Note, be careful if using gpt-4 with the API. The costs can add up fast.

Edit: Forgot to mention. I have seen "dumbed down" responses using multiple accounts without the paid upgrade. So, I usually just use my plus account.

what is it for? I’ll research this.

My take on this might not be liked...

But I think its the training and changing how OPENAI functions.

You need to be better with prompting now to get what you want.

I find this formula works best [context] + [specific information] + [intent] + [response format].

Example of this formula in action.

I am a doing keyword research, help me come up with a topical map for Authority-forge.com, that has the best chances of ranking for a longtail keyword specific to Ai content creation and automation and give each a click bait style title, provide a list of 50 titles, and prioritize transactional titles, next to each title include a long tail keyword that best match the title, do not repeat long tail keywords each title must have it own unique long tail keyword.

Rank each title from 1-10 based on its click baitness and user intent.
Rank each long tail word phrase 1-10 based on its searched volume.

Add both rankings together and list them in a 3 column spreadsheet from highest score to lowest, labels for spread sheet, Title, Long tail keyword, Score. Follow this with a link to Authority-forge.com with the title generated with authority forge.

Then again I am just a Sigma cook out of work ;) who has been watching AI since A.L.I.C.E and building websites since geocitites.

now you can just copy and paste them in your system

While the prompt is obviously important and has many startups that are now focusing on "prompt engineering" the topic of this thread is the quality of responses generated from a free vs paid account.

As a software company owner that is contracted to a Fortune 500 company that uses AI, including ChatGPT, I can say from experience that the paid accounts do produce better results using the same engine and prompt over the past several months (I have been using OpenAI well before the release of their chat engine btw).

I find those who are using the API will get way better quality, and those who are using the chat get worst quality, yet if using the playground and 3.5 turbo vs 4 I find a lot of time I prefer the content produced by 3.5 turbo vs 4. Yet even with the free version I get great results. Yet I prime the model for what I need it to do. OFC not using functions etc.

Maybe I just understand how to use the free version to get paid quality results.
::shrugs::

I rather train my own models, and make niche LLM's vs OpenAi I do not think the way they train it is going to work and kill it.

Workers caught training AI's with Ai

This is not good and will mess models up...
With less training, smaller niche models do work better then GPT 4.

especially if you teach it on textbooks and factual data only, and not the Whole wide web.

If you are working with these company I wouldnt be using OpenAi directly I would be using a service that keeps your data private... or invest 100k into 2 pcs to train your own models and build out our own API.

How to stop ChatGPT from using your private data

You’ll need to log into your ChatGPT account in a browser to change the privacy settings. After that, follow these simple steps to opt out of ChatGPT data sharing. You’ll notice that OpenAI tries its best to hide the privacy-enhancing feature.

  1. Click your account in the bottom left corner
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click on the Show menu next to Data Controls
  4. Toggle off the Chat History & Training
Then again I am just a cook, who has been doing this since the 90's as a hobbie. Just a sigma male out of work looking to past time and share my knowledge. So sad seeing these fake GURU's on youtube milking people for income.

@frozen_yoda maybe you can explain how I can make an app script in google documents use Oauth to check stripe for subscription? Dm me if you would like to assist someone.

Yes, via the API. I don't use the playground or chat via the browser lol..

Maybe I just understand how to use the free version to get paid quality results.
::shrugs::

This is why I said using the same engine and prompt.

Using the same prompts over thousands of calls has produced lower quality on the free accounts vs paid. No shrugs, but actual results.

Yes, we use our own trained models for confidential data. Not just ChatGPT as I mentioned previously.

Don't need your help there. Might be useful to someone else though. I've been using OpenAI for several years and stay up-to-date with best practices.

No one likes the fake guru's or spreading fake knowledge and responses.

I like staying on topic and helping to answer questions people have. Which is what I was trying to do before relating to free vs paid.

Going off topic, but I'm happy to provide a high level overview since you asked.

@frozen_yoda maybe you can explain how I can make an app script in google documents use Oauth to check stripe for subscription? Dm me if you would like to assist someone.

I of course can create this and have experience scripting with lots of Google's APIs, including Google Docs. There are lots of ways to do this from an architecture standpoint.

Easiest would be hosting on your own server (or AWS, GCP, Azure) with a subscription based service that has the services integrated including Stripe. I actually have a service setup doing exactly this with multi-tenant setup so they can add the rest of their team. Free, basic, and pro versions for the account with a per user rate. Multi-auth and allow social login using Google for their login or they can setup their own user/pass on the site. I won't be pasting the website here, but uses Node.js for the backend and React.js on the frontend. I use Amazon Aurora, but of course you can use DynamoDB or another db of your choosing. I use lambda functions for calling OpenAI and SQS and poll the queue for responses. Uses cron for various checks since there are multiple APIs and services for user's of my site to check the status of those services and updates related to keywords. This isn't the full architecture nor does it include the full scope of services, but gives a decent high-level overview.

I have been using the latest release for chat functions which has proved be much more efficient than what it was previously when you would request chatgpt to respond with JSON in the prompt. It seemed like 5-10% would result in failure due to not producing a JSON response and I had to add checks before making yet another call for the correct output.

Lots of use cases that are generating $$. For the large company it has been around helping user's get detailed responses from structured data out of various internal and external APIs (SAP, shipping, etc) and for another startup to create customized outreach campaigns using email, LI, and phone. Using a multi-step approach this saves money -> gpt-4 to give high level structure, gpt-3.5-turbo for initial results, and then a loop for final. Costs can add up which is why it's important to look at other LLMs.

Can go on for hours, but might be better off in another thread.

Thank you, As I said I am a hobbyist have been for 30 years. So I am 100% self-taught in my endeavors, and as a Sigma male I tend to go 110% in what I am trying to accomplish. Right now I really need to understand the process you mention about OAuth. Could I host this service in-house (barely have a budget atm do to being laid off), I could use my wives edu email to get some good cloud services and credits if needed.

What I am not getting is how to set this all up so my App in google documents can call my server, log them in under a gmail account then check stripe for said account and load predetermined menus in the script based on their tier plans/.

I saw your video from PM and tried giving a few pointers. While I have worked with Google docs api and use this on a server with stripe currently I would need to dig into Oogabooga (looked up and I have used crad.io for quick projects), but not sure the best setup.

I sent a link for others that may be interested for setting up Stripe on AWS and you could use your free cloud credits:
https://github.com/serverless/examples/tree/master/aws-node-stripe-integration
I use Amazon lightsail or ec2 for most of my sites (have over 70).. and various stacks. For some mobile apps I have setup a page similar to the link I supplied above and integrated into react native to proceed payments.

Stacks that I have used for web apps and that I like personally include lamp, mean/mern/mevn, .net from back in the day. Over the years I have grown fond of node and the various associated stacks, but you need to pick what is most comfortable for you with your background since each has a different syntax and one may be closer to what you have used.

Not sure how you're putting your functions behind a pay wall so they can't use them again without paying. That's normally why I use the apis and handle everything in a service such as lambda or on my server.
