This is correct, with youtube or any other known platform, you are already giving yourself a bigger platform to stand on.
There is still such thing as youtube SERPS SEO etc but, in a way, you deal with less fuckery than a unknown website's SEO.

It is not as reliable as it was in past. Owning and maintaining rank of websites for long has also become very hard. Overall, it is not a profitable venture and that is why big companies do not get involved with this work. It is always individuals doing this.
