How long are your domains renewed for?

2 years tops, nothing is promised! Made it through and survived? I'd give another two years.

usually 10 years. They're not that expensive, so why not. Worst case scenario I lose 100$, sometimes less, depending on the TLD.

I always renewed yearly for 1 year.

Just had some money in a Paypal account I wanted to get rid of now, and I figured one less thing to worry about, so I renewed all my domains until 2027. Fuck it :D

Right. And the prices of everything keep going up. Renewing for years into the future saves money because 2 or 3 or 5 years from now the price of renewal goes up, and from then on you're paying more.

Plus I never had an issue with losing a domain or anything like that, so I'm pretty confident it's all safe from that perspective.

And if I ever sell any domain, the year until when the domain is renewed goes into the price, so no loss there.

i renew when they sent email asking for, because i dont know how long i can survive. that all the reason.

I usually renew for one year every time, but I read somewhere that the renewal period might be a ranking factor (it sounded stupid at first, but it kinda makes sense to me now), so the domains I actually do something with are renewed for 10 years while these I just bought for the sake of it are renewed every year.

In 2007 I registered my first domain and kind of attached to it as it was my first business (ecommerce site). In 2010 renewed it for 10 years and it looked like its a long time. We are here today in 2023. Time just flew by :) I renewed that domain till 2026 now. Will never let that domain go as I have many memories attached to it.

Speaking of business, I hold 100's of other domains, many of them are expired domains and I acquired them. I renew them for 1 year at the moment.

You are right. Though it is not the ONLY BIG factor, it is one of the hundred factors that are counted while deciding how authorative a domain is.

I have couple of domains that I wanted to make my money site. So as an experiment I registered them for 5 years in advance.

is the renewal driven by emotional attachment alone :p
You are right. The domain is lying with me with a single page placeholder website.

Indeed, I am keeping it purely out of emotional attachment. :D :D

This domain has many memories of my struggling days attached to it. Me and my partner had started this ecommerce business when we had literally no money in the pocket and we were still able to make money at that time. It was a really tough time but a very good learning experience.

At times I decided to sell it too, but then I just thought to let it lie there and focused on other things. Its been around 16 years since then...As I am typing this I am recalling those days...just can't believe it! Time runs so fast!

Practically speaking - we never own a domain. We just rent it. So I will try to keep it as much as I can.

Noice :D

Well, if we just rent it enough to last us a lifetime it's as good as owning the asset if you ask me :)
I'll probably follow in your footsteps and keep renewing my current domain (first blog project) even if it fails in the future.
