Sure it does. Find a niche with low keyword competition and optimize your site accordingly. Publish a good sitemap and submit to search engines right after you build your website, and you'll be indexed pretty quick.

If your site is well targeted for low comp keywords, then you'll start to see some organic traffic soon. Keep adding good relevant content, and hopefully your traffic increases as a result.

i think the normal pattern is that you get google traffic immediately as soon as the site is indexed, and then you stop getting traffic a few days later. unless you do the link building and so forth...

if you're not getting immediate traffic, then you probably picked the wrong niche, because google's 'way' is to announce new sites immediately by putting them near the top of the results. if other sites don't take notice and link in, then they fall down to their resting places wherever that may be, hopefully not page 12...

I think my problem is I'm trying to break into way too saturated niche, travel niche. I'm probably competing against MILLIONS of websites and my site gets buried amongst them..

So I must digg deeper in my travel niche, something very specific or start looking something completely different genre..

You definetly want to stay away from Travel, the web is saturated with that niche.

on a new search term it only take 1 day to become the #1 in SERPS

I hate when I start a new webiste. The f*cking google always plays a game where we always lose, most of the cases your blog will be sandboxed for 6 months and that sucks. Fortunately there's a lot of methods to attract traffic, I've read a lot about them but never tried so i guess they work

I don't seem to have a problem, then again I work on about 10 sites at a time (cause of my ADHD).

Here's what I do, I don't seem to be sandboxed on any new site this way...
1. Digg your site
2. Submit a few articles for backlinks
3. Stumble Yourself
4. if you have other sites to link to your new site preferably from a blog do it.
5. Setup a blog on your new site.
6. submit your google XML sitemap
7. add new content either automatically or manually (I take PLR Content and spin it).

Alternatively, what I have done recently again (i did it before) was to just buy expired domains that are close to what I want anyway, they seem to pick up quicker in search engines, as it's know domain age plays a roll, I'm not sure when they expire, I don't think google really expires it (say it was reg in 2002, when it expires, I think google gives it like a month before it would count as a brand new domain, at least experience tells me this seems about right).

If you want to flip some sites fast the expired domain and quick content works nice for a few hundred bucks relatively easily.

submit your site map, put your domain in your sig in many forums, and wait. you'll get traffic on long tail searches quicker than popular keywords.

If you mix a couple of longtail keywords (that have less than a few thousand searches a month) in with your main keyword, that should guarantee a 1st page ranking of the site for the obscure terms and make organic traffic trickle in quick. Then backlinking to your main keyword will bring up the ranking of the site over the medium term, which will be followed by larger traffic.

I usually get traffic in a few hours after social bookmarking (stumbleupon, digg, reddit, propeller) and pinging (pingomatic.com). Pinging also leads to fast indexing in google.

Also mybloglog is useful.

The main thing is to do the recommended steps above (low-comp keyword, sitemap, initial articles et al) to get indexed or 'on the onramp' fast, then concentrate on efficient linking to sustain traffic. Add to that press releases, mass submissions of the url and social bookmarking, in order to accelerate the curve of folks visiting the site. Maintaining static high rank with Google is not the point, it's the constant activity of the robots having to notice the site via the backlinks that causes G to have to revisit ranking it.

it only takes me 1-3 days to get SE traffic from a brandnew domain with low competition. Usually ranks 1st to the 3rd position

ask a question using yahoo answer with the keyword (answer it back with your domain)
