It is not guaranteed. It can take years also or the project can also fail. But you will get learnings and experience which is precious.

A good friend started a blog about his cat and his life around the cat. 2 years later he makes some $5,000 a month in affiliate income that he forgot to report to the IRS lol his following posts were about his cat mad at him because of that mistake... even life events are about his cat...
I have a personal blog where I post about many things I care about (all over the place) - I don't get 1/100th of his traffic.

It really depends how much time you will invest and if you will go blackhat or whitehat, still since you are learning take it slow rush it always take you to make mistakes so don't worry how much time will take just take one step at the time right now.

Like others have mentioned, you can start earning at ANY time.
With how active people are on social media, they're generally looking to consume any new entertainment/information they can find. Study the journey's section for a few marketing hints.
Use social media (twitter, reddit, facebook, instagram, Snapchat) to your advantage. They're a huge traffic boost.
