Making this thread cause i've noticed people on here mention they have ADHD a lot.
as anyone who has it knows, it can be debillitating and really get in the way of work, which is pretty bad when youre self employed and doing IM.

Anyone here have advice to others on how to work through this?? maybe we can get a good thread going that can help a bunch of people that are struggling rigt now

I'll start with my own advice:
I find setting reminders for things you have to do everyday helps you build a routine. which is important for having a productive day and getting everything you need done... uh done.

also, if you do content writing, i like to write a rough first draft of my piece as if i'm talking to someone, and then i go through and start making it sound professional after

Most good IMers I know have either ADD or ADHD.
I think it helps being more creative, and even though working can be hard sometimes, this can also be used as a tool.

I don't take meds because it shuts me off, and I think I learned to work with it.

If someone paid you a million bucks an hour to work without your ADHD affecting you, could you do it? Many here consider the stakes just as high, and have no issue making things work without a complaint.

I have a "lifelong diagnosed mental health illness" that affects my life dramatically. Does any Western-labelled bullshit get in the way of me and my millions? Not a chance! lol

Yeah I've noticed that a lot of people with ADHD and ADD seem drawn to IM. i guess its because peopel with that struggle in the usual 9-5 jobs, so a lot of them are here looking for an alternative to sitting in a cubicle

kinda depends person to person how much they struggle. ive seen a lot of people not do so well, and i dont think its just that westerners label it. but interesting perspective, thanks for that.

indeed i do

always delivering high-quality dissapointment
i know how you feel lol, but I gues I always feel disappointed because I think that I coudl do so much more, you know? the people I deliver my work to dont seem to complain at least

I did a 9-5 (more like 6-6 or 6-8) job in IM for a long time before I started my own business. I think that the fact that it's interesting and challenging is a bigger factor than the hours, but I only know myself :)

I think I do, not pretty serious tho neither I'm sure of it,
It doesn't bother me at all tho, it's kinda funny sometimes

If you're working all alone, it can get in the way
There's just no way around it other than taking frequent breaks

I used to take Ritalin. It really helped me focus more. Sadly, my new doc wont prescribe it to me anymore. I keep some clarity with Intermittent fasting, heavy workouts and 1-2 caffeine pills. But in all honestly, my work has always been better when I was on Ritalin

I realised that my MDD was horrible during covid, it was really the worst as I stayed home and desocialised.

The thing is you should go in a library, or in a place that is optimised for work.

Not stay home, not if you have ADHD.

Go out and stay in a productive environment.

If you aren't sure whether you have it and it doesn't really bother you, you probably dont have it. its only a condition when it gets in the way of life, not when you just cant concentrate every now and then lol thats just normal

yeah taking frequent breaks is the way for me. i used to try fighting through the times i couldnt focus, but i find its better to just relax and work better later. that said, sometimes relaxing and working later isnt an option

for some people medication is hugely helpful and for others it doesnt help. sorry that you cant get it anymore, maybe you can find a telehealth option for adhd medication??

Not really, that depends on the person. a lot of people with ADHD do better at home because its quieter than being in public and you can create the environment you need. MDD is usually a symptom of ADHD (it is for me anyway) but it is not the same thing so they dont compare lol

i have adhd and tend to find it sometimes overwhelming when working online so i will daily do things to re-channel my focus / energy. sometimes it can be simple things such as a nap, taking a quick smoke break, or cleaning up to calm the mind temporarily. its really just about understanding your brain and how it works because once you get a great understanding of yourself you should be able to learn to create specific things that can help your adhd out when you notice it start to get out of hand. every day will be different. some days youll wake more motivated some days you tend to wake up less motivated but the less motivated days focus on self care and positivty to keep your work life balalnced with adhd we can tend to over work sometimes because we over think. i hope this advice helps and really was happy to come across this thread sometimes you can feel very alone in your own head overthinking with ADHD its that thought/feeling you get like dang something must be wrong with my brain why cant i ever focus im always thinking about a million and one things.

I think ADHD can be your superpower as a company Founder.

You just juggle between tasks and you can multitask.

As CEO you have to be generally good at everything, I think it ADHD can help.

I can tell you have it cause of the huge wall of text lol
you're giving real good advice though ,it does depend on the person but its good not to push yourself at the points where its too hard to work because you wont get anywhere. that said you should always keep in mind not to just spend the whole day doing things to relax because then it can turn into procrastination and avoiding work. i find trying to time my breaks helps a lot

thats possible. they say walt disney had ADHD and that had a big impact on the way he managed his enterprise. I wouldn't call ADHD a superpower, but there are some advantages to it, it's not all bad.

What I do is I take peace of paper or open a notepad on my laptop and write down three tasks I need to do.

I get done with them.

Then I repeat this process.

I helps with focus problems.

I doubt I have ADHD tho, but just troubled focus abilities.

Something I've been thinking about for a while now with my ADHD and how i may be able to take advantage of it rather than allow it to take advantage of me. I'm sure many of you can relate to that rush of energy and drive you to get when you start a new project, Only to completely disappear after some time, then the distractions come. I was thinking maybe I could try to do 24-48 hour projects that are complete within that time, so I can freely jump around while still building a portfolio of potential.

In this way, you can use your disadvantage to your advantage.

Unfortunately i never got around too it because i got distracted :P

its ok if you dont have ADHD, even general organisation advice is good. what you brought up about writing a list down of the tasks you need to do is good advice, it works for me too.

What is that?
he was saying that he thinks he might have ADHD but its probably nothing serious

I think its good to think of the advantages you can get with having ADHD. you do tend to have more creativity than people without ADHD, and you can also thrive in an environment with a lot of structure, for example.
i like your idea about trying to chase the rush of motivation you sometimes get, but i find it runs out too fast for me to do anything substantial with it. What I have found though is that I can sometimes tap into that if I manage to really get into a project i have going on. and then sometimes I'll work on that for so long that I forget to eat or sleep and dont realise that hours are going by lol

Seems to vary from person to person, I can get so absorbed into a project days could go by, Suddenly out of nowhere i have zero interest left. That's why i settled on 24-48 hours. Would need to be adjusted to your own needs. Obviously there are draw backs as well, Some projects just cant be done in 48 hours.
