Back in the game

Hi All,

Well I've been lurking on these forums since a while now. I've had some moderate success with python skills and crypto currencies but nothing life-changing yet...

But my life has indeed changed a lot. I'm going over divorce right now after 10 years of marriage and I am trying to rebuild my life.

One of my goals is to have a thriving internet business. Myself I am an Engineer with +10 years experience and I'm planning to create some courses, but it is so hard to keep up with everything in the marketing world I have a job at the same time and I'd like to swap to entrepreneurship in 1 or 2 years.

I'll start lurking again, but this time I'll try to do more than just lurk .

Any ideas guys on how to know the basics (backlinks what is that?, analytics?, google ads, facebooks instagram ads?) looks like people in here making money in ways I cannot even imagine.

I'll join the club and will share once things get on the wheels. Mean time, I'm saying hello to everyone again!!

Well. actually both of them. I would like to create courses with good content in the engineering world. At the same time I create the courses, I would create content from a blog (kind of freebies) and get visibility from Headhunters for professional services mission. So the website would be an entry point for: Technical courses, my CV/portfolio and professional services requests.

But I'd have to know how to market those and I want to stick to my tech niche. and develop from there. But I don't seem to know where to start. I'm struggling with WP/elemtor for creating the site and I'm kinda affraid to hire someone at this point since I'm not very sure how do I want my website to look like. So I'm bit stuck in there... I guess I need to go back and work on my biz proposal again..

You sound like you have an interesting angle with the engineering content/courses. I don't know anything about the field, but I'm guessing since it's so specialized that your clientele will be other engineers like yourself who want to expand their knowledge.

With that being said, you could start hanging out in engineering forums, FB groups, following IG pages, etc. so you can see what questions people ask the most, interact with them and provide answers, and use all of that as content for your site/course. Or I'm sure there are common questions/problems people have in your everyday work that come up a lot that you can provide easy solutions for and use as content as well.

YouTube may be another option if there's a lot of visual demonstrations in your work where you can do a screen-capture video of you solving a particular problem for example.

Right now should really just be about putting out as much content as possible for free using all different mediums so you can build an audience who will buy your shit down the line.

I wouldn't even worry about the design of the website yet. Just build something no matter how shitty you think it looks, since you can always change it later (and most likely will anyways even if you got it perfect right away).

Other unimportant things people get caught up on are: logos, company names, what color scheme to make their site/course/whatever; all of that stuff is pointless to even think too much about in the beginning.

Lastly, I can imagine how painful a divorce after 10+ years can be, so it's good to see you wanting to channel that energy into improving yourself. You already have the right mindset it sounds like, so keep working on getting a little better at this every day and I'm confident you will become successful in this game.

As for the basics, some of those terms are easy to find on google, e.g. backlinks. Then after you get through the basics, read BHW for the methods. Then adapt those methods, cuz they never work 100% exactly the same.

Yep, everyone gets hung up on that stuff so you're not alone. The truth is, your clientele won't give a shit what your logo or website looks like as long as the information is well presented and you solve whatever problem they are having that made them find you in the first place.

Just use Wordpress, find a theme you like that looks good out of the box, and use that. You don't even need a logo at all, but if you want one, find someone on Fiverr and get something basic made for now.
