There is no hard and fast rule, but you are limited by how many google can index without any issue using indexing api , I think it's 200 if I remember correctly.

How mature is the site?

How many writers do you have?

Who's signing the articles? One article signed by a big shot is worth 100x articles from johndoe.

Is your site YMYL? If so, then the person signing the article is more relevant than the article itself.

Are your article getting traction on social media? On specialized forums?

And so on. Think human interaction. Modern SEO is 90% human signals.
