For hot niches where content is in high demand the videos generally gain vies in thousands and millions. Such channels get monetized in weeks because they complete the criteria soon.

Other channels whose content get less views take months to year to reach the threshold.

I want to emphasize the importance of niche selection for You Tube channel creation.

Even if your channel is about your favorite topic but there is either not high demand or that niche is extremely saturated, then you should consider changing the niche.

Personally it took me a few years, and maybe a year from when I started focusing on reaching the monetization goal.
It depends on your niche, how long your videos are, how big your audience is, etc.
But really, you should never rush into monetization else you will be monetized with very little views.
Smaller channels should focus on growing without monetization then once getting thousands of views per video, then consider enabling monetization.
