I am not a newbie in this line of work, but this really leaves me without any ideas.

I have a client that offers accounting services, and I am taking care of his LinkedIn account. Unfortunately, the posts barely get any engagement - thus every next post has smaller and smaller reach.

The posts are naturally from his industry, well written etc. etc. The issue is not in that.

I analyzed the data of his connections, and it appeared that he has barely any people from the same industry, and like 40% of connections are business owners.

I have a feeling that his connections are just BAD for what he is trying to do. Any idea how to fix this?

Why don't you take over the content too or hire someone to do it. Clearly he is not a "thought leader" in his industry and don't write for his audience. That way you will have more control over what you are trying to do with his account. Take some linkedin course. Try to rank post on Google, lot of post appear in top 10 serp results.

Since this is BHW
1. Google "linkedin pods" instead of generic non-actionable advice.
2. Thank me later.

Add more connections in the same/similar field. Add as many as you can then, you will see more connections coming and a higher reach of your posts.

As @PushKing mentioned - you can add people in the same field.

Try finding people who are also actively posting on LinkedIn and engaging in their posts. Some will reciprocate the action.

Also, as @PimpMyGrowth mentioned, you can use Engagement Pods. Be careful, however, as some people get shadow banned when the pattern is too consistent. If you're using pods - don't use them for all your posts.

Also, fake it till you make it. By that, I mean, get some acquaintances to engage with the posts. This will push it to a larger audience, hence giving you more chances to get engagement from new people.

Lastly, try tagging active people in your posts. If you tag someone with a 10-15k audience, that replies to your post - lots of their followers will be shown your post too. This is great for increasing post reach.

Add more connections of the same industry, so more people will look at the content. Good luck.

Already on it, but there is literally no engagement. However, I took a look at his connections and they were just horrible. Seems the problem stems form there + that he doesn't have built ANY relationships with anyone so far. But thanks for the contribution I appreciate it

Hi Pimpy, yeah I did try that but had 0 luck in finding any engagement pods. Can you help guide me on where I can find engagement pods? I need these for my personal acc as well

Connections are like followers it's a vanity matric. You gotta get you linkedin articles ranking in Google, gotta get organic engagement on LinkedIn outside of connections.

It's not a vanity metric by any measure, at least not in the situations i've had my/client's accounts.

While getting posts on google is cool, does that mean that post engagement is vanity metric too? LinkedIn shows the posts you are engaging with with your network, something that other SMs rarely do. That's why connections are crucial, and not a vanity. Without proper network you won't build the social proof you need. Rarely who will open a post from google results, see 0 likes and not take it as a red flag.

Issue is, if you are an accountant and your connections are IT, web developers and small business owners, no one is interested in your posts, thus get no engagement what so ever.
