Twitter Algorithm: Thoughts since Musk took over?

What are people's thoughts on the algorithm changes since he took over? Have you noticed anything that's definitely changed in terms of things such as tweet order, who sees what, traffic to your website etc?

Personally, I've noticed less traffic through tweets to blogs and just a general drop in retweets/likes.

Whether that's due to fewer people using it I've no idea, or whether Twitter Blue users are being seen more and being ranked higher.

Twitter has fired all employees and vacating it's offices. Some mad, crazy AI on steroids, is now totally handling Twitter's algorithms, so we can now expect the best (or the worst ?) to happen as far as Twitter tweets, etc are concerned, as their AI on steroids will do it's Google algorithms types of dance moves with a combo of sudden break dance stunts in the mix. Now, even better days are ahead for Twitter.

I seem to be seeing a lot more right-wing / libertarian opinions in my feed, mainly, but not entirely, US-based and in the Trump end of the Republican party, peddling endless conspiracy theories and tiresome election denial.

Another thing I noticed a few times (I don't read replies to people's tweets that much) is that the ones at the top had the blue tick. Some were Twitter Blue buyers.

It suggested that paying the £8 a month could increase views a lot.

It got me thinking. Musk could make Twitter Blue accounts be seen first. Then when he has enough Twitter Blue members, bring out another one for £15 a month which now overtakes Twitter Blue... and so on.

Interesting observation - thank you. Opinions differ on this, but I for one will not be giving a single red cent to Mr Musk. (And why is he still there after promising to step down if the Twittersphere wanted him to? - which it did.)

I notice that all the adult content is hidden and is not suggested anymore and the reduce of retweets and likes might be because most of the bot accounts are banned or closed now teh content seems real y not spammy and see the same content 10 times in a row.

Outside of any post tweet like or retweet of anything critical of Elon musk getting an account suspension or ban....

1. Losing at least 500 followers a week on popular accounts because he accuses them of being bots and suspends them.
2. Too many damn phone verifications just for liking a tweet or 2 - not even a lot just 1 or 2.
3. Suspensions for using API third party apps that are years old like Followers+ or Unfollowspy.
4. Suspensions for using TweetDeck.
5. Loss of engagement if you do not have Twitter Blue, which he said that would happen.
6. Elon's campaign for less tweeting.
7. The loss of Latest Tweets in fair of For You/Following - Everyone's tweets are getting less reach because of this divided feed feature.
8. Elon making his account private because "something's wrong".
9. Share button replaced with view count on timeline.

Those are the most significant things I've seen.

1. I manage 20 accounts that vary between 5-80K followers, all real. I audit them manually once a day as I provide organic growth service. 500 a week on the bigger accounts of real, active followers has been the norm since these last changes. When he first took over Twitter it was a very significant drop. My biggest account had 1K people disappear overnight. I know a lot quit but when I audit I see "suspended user", so that let's me see what's going on and they are not bots.

2. I will say I think it is definite. Elon's said he wants less tweets coming from accounts. He wants more people to have influence for having checkmarks, and he was bold that only people with blue checkmarks would get to the top of the engagement pool. 3 accounts that I manage that refused to pay for twitter blue are down 60% on engagement after having maybe 10K views, now they are lucky to hit a couple hundred.

3. It's on Elon's wall of mess. He's just got all these ideas that don't make frickin' sense. Ever since IMHO he banned social media links, then just recently YouTube over that chick (I made a thread about that) engagement across the board in general has been down. It's just bad policy.

I didn't know he had banned social media links. Do you mean you can't link from Twitter to your Instagram profile?

I'm still not getting the 'fewer tweets coming accounts' bit. Do you have a link to where he said this?

Also, what about when loads of people have Twitter Blue? He'll need to create another one to beat Twitter Blue.

Since Elon came, you might have seen a bigger gap between those with low-low reach, and those going viral.

But on the other hand, you have now more analytics to work with, in order to try pushing your tweet exposure by trying various strategies.

They can only be in algorythm favour. If you're serious about Twitter and not verified nor Blue, it's a mistake. You should at least be Twitter Blue in order to rank higher in the comments, and show your audience a minimum of social proof/authority.

Yeah exactly this. But then they also didn't fix the exploit that can ban any adult account you want. His first action was fight against bots, Twitter Blue and today they announced Paid API access. I wonder what's next.

I do agree with this, for sure. You need a phone number so it's a good way of verifying yourself too. I will get around to doing this, once I know what's going on with the API and which tools work.
