[Journey] - Growing SFW subreddits

Well.. the first sub is basically dead.. it's an old sub, made 10 years ago that I took over.. maybe old subs aren't recommended to people compared to new subs?

I am collecting emails and then monetize via clickbank.
I have some SFW reddits and I am also collecting emails but I wondered what methods you are using.

For me I just have a pinned post at the top of the subreddit that gives some basic FAQ and tells them to download the free ebook.

Do you collect emails in this way too? I am unsure whether to promote the ebook outside of my own subreddit.

I have the same tactics - pinned post with a free ebook for subing to my email list. I am atm testing if I should make a post and describe the book vs just direct linking to email capture page with minimal info.

I also use automod and stickied comments that point to the squeeze page.

I did promote the ebook outside the sub - it worked well until the subs started banning links to my book.

Atm I think I need to change the niche because the subs have killed my promotion methods off.

How much do you earn per email?

I only published this ebook yesterday so I so far have $0.00 from 0 emails.

However, I have a monetized subreddit with 800 members (different niche) that earned me around $100. The only negative about this is that I don't/can't really collect emails from these people and resell them on something else.

How did you monetize that sub?

UPDATE

I stopped promoting sub 1 as it was a bit too generic and didn't grow that well due to that. It's also over 10 years old or so and I think Reddit promotes newly created subs posts more to users feed compared to older subs. It also didn't grow at all on it's own so..

SUB 2 TOTAL: 6068

This sub grew VERY little since the last update. At one point it seemed that the sub name was blacklisted in the comments section of a big sub I used to promote it in so I stopped promoting it because all the other places to promote it brought in laughable results but as u can see.. I tried again in the last days and it actually wasn't blacklisted.. or it was omitted by spam algorithm for some days and then de-blacklisted again? Don't know.

On it's own the sub grows very little but also at the same time loses more subs than it gains.. so, without promoting it the sub actually is dying.. which is weird as the people in it are all freshly subbed (last half a year).

ANYWAYS.. I started a 3rd sub... in the same niche as the SUB 2 but this time I brought in my skills in automation.

I built a bot to scan relevant phrases and words in all the comments made in Reddit and then reply with my comment to them and mention my sub.

It's difficult to be relevant at times and the bot gets banned depending on the "strength" of the account. For new accs with little karma it takes 6 hours.. stronger and older accounts last 2 days..

I also created a system for the bot to make some random comments on posts after commenting with my sub link so to look more real to casual people who visit my profile.. however Reddit "detectives" see through it and report me.. I hope it helps the accs stay alive a bit longer though..

If I wanted I could try to make the bot even more relevant etc but then it takes eons to find relevant comments and the end result is a bot that stays alive longer but brings in too little traffic.

SUB 3 TOTAL: 1578

It's growing nicely and I have plans to build a similar bot in other niches.

Do you have any recommendations for tools to automate posting on reddit?

Depends.. if you want to schedule posts on your own sub then you can do that under the mod tools, if you need something else then you can build a really simple PRAW Python bot to do it for you through API.

How many members do the bots gain you each day?

I haven't tried botting yet and don't know whether its worth it.

What kind of posts do you post in your subreddits to attract subscrbers?

Well.. depends.. but around 60-100 or so.

What kind of posts do you post in your subreddits to attract subscrbers?

I post educational posts - some are upvoted, others are heavily downvoted.. it's random.

UPDATE

I decided to keep promoting SUB 1 with my bot. I have no idea if I can earn anything from it but it grew pretty well.. around 100 subs/day. I have a cb offer posted there and I try to get 1000 clicks and see if I can get any sales - if not then dunno.. the sub is a bust or I can try getting them to my email list with a freebie.

The wank part is that the sub has 4 different target groups in equal size.. so.. if I promote 1 product only 25% of people will be the target to it. Maybe I can just promote stuff in a row.. so.. 1 day for 1 target group, next day to the other.. will see what happens with it.

SUB 1 TOTAL: 1434

Reddit has new insights dashboard for stats.. they are super talented in making everything more shit to see stats wise but yeah.. with bot promoting 24/7 I got around 100 new subs.

Strong bot accs last around 1 week, new accs half a day or so.

SUB 2 TOTAL: 6761

I did one comment in a related sub that got shit tons of views and managed to get 550 or so new subs with that one comment and in the same comment I mentioned my other sub also that got around 300 new subs. Not bad.. 850 new subs with one comment.

SUB 3 TOTAL: 2615

Bot is running 24/7 on this one until it gets banned.. avg daily new subs is around 60 or so.

I also tried complete spam method - my bot commented over 1600 comments to check out my sub - it got banned in 1 day.. the sub had CPA email submit offers in it.. I managed to make one conversion of $2.4 but I don't know if it's worth it.. I don't want to lose these accs in 1 day because they are expensive to buy and I only have limited amount I made a long time ago.

I might try the spam method on my legit subs and see how many new users I get and how long the acc lasts.
