Yes and No. If you are satisfying the keyword intent then you will not be penalized.

If Google penalizes AI content, Google will obviously use AI to detect AI and hence, Google's SERPs will get further tipsy ; the breakdance moves would be more vigourous. Like thief # 1 using thief # 2 to catch thief # 3 : everyone's gonna have a wild party, I guess.

Only if the day comes when AI detection (to detect AI content) becomes perfect, till then the penalization (if any) will remain perhaps for duplicate / copied / plagiarized content.

Very intelligent replies. I saw the Thread Title and I thought Oh no here we go .....
Here's my thoughts based on 17 years in the SEO Trenches and living through all the hype of Magic Bullets and One Hit Wonder Software etc., ......
It is absolutely certain that ChatGPT et al will be an utterly pointless exercise in the SEO Context at best. At worst, it will fck u up longterm.
You could plot a Graph SWOT style with this and at the two threat extremes there would be A: Google Detects AI Content and Devalues/Penalizes it. B: Content suffers from grotesque levels of over-supply (I.e. Supply and Demand Dynamics) and ALL content becomes incredibly hard to reach Google's notice at all!
Both Are Unknowns.
But I do know what we can do NOW to mitigate both potential outcomes and actually get even better SEO Results regardless:
Focus on Quality Original Brilliant Content and Links and ignore all of this bullshit.
Shortcuts Make Long Delays.
Automation is awesome! But not when all it automates is bullshit.

No, Google does not penalize AI-generated content. But Google's algorithms prioritize unique and high-quality content. If AI-generated content is low quality or duplicated, it will not rank well in search results.

OK, inadvertently, I added 300-400 words of AI-generated content (got a free review and it turned out to be AI-generated content).
So, it's been over 6 months like this... NO NEGATIVE EFFECT.
What am I going to do? I will manually re-write that part to be on the safe side.

Bankrate and CNET are openly using and been using AI for the kast 6 months.
Buzzfeed has just done a deal where they will be using AI content and their stock shot up.
I definitely think Google will push out uodates for low value/thin content im the future to continue to clean the SERPs, but good AI content that doesn’t scream AI as soon as you look at it may have a longer future than we used to think
