My website theme is not compatible with php8

Hey guys

I am using an old WordPress theme named "detube" since 2013, Theme developer stopped supporting and updating theme from years ago
I need to upgrade the PHP of my website to version 8 but this theme doesn't work with this version of PHP
How can I make it compatible with latest version of PHP?

1st of all you have to be sure that your plugins are compatible with php8 too.
So update wordpress to the latest version, update all plugins.
Edit the file wp-config.php
from:
define( ‘WP_DEBUG’, false );
to
define( ‘WP_DEBUG’, true );
or install a plugin called 'Query Monitor'.
Now you should see what kind of errors you need to work on.
Analyze the php errors.. in case, ask google or ChatGPT for help and fix your code accordingly.

You have to see if your theme has updates available then you just download update package and replace it with current files or you have to take backup and try some fixes

In case the developer no longer supports this theme, you will need to hand craft a fix to every deprecated code there is. No worries about your changes being deleted on next update as there will be none as you said.

Do create backups before changing anything, and if you can - make all the tests on a staging copy. It is wise to write down any change you make and when everything is working like it should, do the changes in your live site.

Of course you will need to know php for this all to work, so if you feel you are not ready for this, you should hire a professional to do it for you.

Try to upgrade the theme with the PHP version as the WP gave you the option for that
or upload the updated theme
