Hi guys,

I have an interest in cryptocurrency so thought I'd create a blog site in this niche and then monetize via affiliate links. So I purchased a domain and hosting and started creating a WordPress site. Then I've come to realize the keywords I'm trying to rank for a very difficult and there's a lot of competition out there. I think I approached this the wrong way. I should have identified a niche with low competition and easy to rank high in search engines. Then I should have purchased a domain and hosting and then started a website. Just because you have an interest in something doesn't mean it will work! I am now sitting there thinking should I abandon this and identify low competition in other niches now or continue with what I'm thinking is going to fail?

Interest isn't equal Passion.
You simply may have interest to make $$$$, for example, but not the passion to do that specific thing.
On the other hand, if you're passionate about a topic, you will know this and that, and you will invest your time seeking to get and provide the best in that specific topic. A thin nuance, but an important one.

So, responding to the main question: If you already spend some time and $$$, without any result, I think you should change the niche. Be your best friend, and make the best for you.

If you don't know where to start, take a look here.

Cheers!

Thanks bro... I havent spent time (the wordpress site is in development stage still) Im thinking change the niche as I know keywords are going to be hard to rank... Ive spent a few quid buying domain and getting site developed but not much else at this stage.

But, there are websites ranking for those difficult keywords, correct ? Instead of quitting and going for something less competitive to rank, why not find out how websites rank for those difficult keywords, what do they do, what SEO strategies do they use ?
Because the more difficult to rank, the higher are the earnings for those website.
Competition is in all levels of keywords nowadays.
If you do not have the correct overall strategy, then you may find out that it may be difficult to rank even for low competition keywords.
So, do not quit from the high competition keywords. While hustling for ranking for high competition keywords, at the same time you can try things for low competition keywords also. Have your websites (domains) accordingly and try both high competition and low competition keywords at the same time.

Even for crypto/finance niche, there are still keywords that you can rank for. You just have to do proper keyword research maybe using semrush or ahrefs. There are plenty of posts here to help you start!

Thanks, Trust.. you know what ..your right! I can't abandon the ship now! Do you mean I can do two sites at the same time in different niches (one with low keyword competition) and continue with the difficult crypto niche I've started!?
