You don't just need backlinks to the page alone, you need backlinks to the entire site as well as the page.

But backlinks alone are not always the reason your site is ranking or not. Other things need to be taken care of as well. Does the page satisfy the search intent? Does it answer the question satisfactorily? And finally, is it well optimized with the right keywords and related phrases?

If all of those are not taken care of, more backlinks would mean nothing.

Invest more in content. More traffic to the page means that the keyword on the page will rank higher.

Other factors include the relevance and quality of the content on your site, the structure and organization of your site, and the user experience, so focus more on content quality.

There are several factors that can affect the ranking of keywords on your website. One important factor is the quality and quantity of backlinks pointing to your website. A comprehensive SEO strategy that involves both on-page and off-page optimization is crucial to improve your website's visibility.

The first step is to check your technical SEO. You can use Search Console for that.
You have to check that the pages are well indexable and indexed.
Second step : publish great content
Third step : put backlinks

Don't go with backlinks because Google doesn't care about spammy backlinks they care about content quality and quantity. How many articles are on your website right now?

how many backlinks you need is hard to say and it depends on a lot of things (niche, keywords, your competition's strength, etc).

And free and good do not mix well when it comes to backlinking. This being said, there are some free links that are worth getting, some of which I've referenced in this post that I've made 10 days ago, while others can be found with a bit of search on the forum:

!. Research for good high search volume and low competition keyword
2. Publish with high quality attractive content
3. Optimize your site and analyze with competitor sites
4. finally move to building backlinks

If you're writing good content and optimizing your website for search engines. it takes 3 to 6 months to rank. If there's high competition or you haven't optimized your website, it may take six to 12 months to see results.

Are you just trying to rank your home page or specific pages on your sites?

These are two different questions.

I cannot quite figure out what your question is, but I will answer both of them.

The first question takes more work to answer.

You have to start with the second question.

The key is to find the right keywords.

These are keywords that have low competition but decent search volume.

Ideally, you should find keywords that do not show up on SEO tools such as Semrush.

When you target keywords that show up on Google autocomplete but do not show up on Semrush, there is a good chance that people are not targeting those keywords.

Why should they when they do not know how much traffic those keywords bring?

They'd rather focus on keywords they have metrics on.

This gives you a tremendous competitive advantage because if your website targets keywords others are not targeting, you can build domain authority sooner rather than later.

This is crucial because you can then use that domain authority to rank the main target keyword of your homepage.

This is how you answer the first question; you have to start with lower-competition keywords.

You need to take the target keyword and ensure that it appears in the title, the first 100 words of your content, and at least one of the subheadings.

I'm not talking about just mentioning keywords like they're magic.

I'm talking about delivering useful, insightful, and valuable content that delivers on the search intent behind the keyword that you're targeting.

If you follow the steps above, you will be able to rank that page, and if you get enough pages to rank, you can build enough domain authority to rank your main keyword.

It all boils down to strategy.
