I have two posts that are unintentionally competing for the same keyword, I didnt think it would be a problem but..about a month ago

The first post which I purely made the post for that particular keyword ranks 1, or well did rank 1 until my second page now ranks number 11 for the same keyword.

Post 1 - is very specific niche keyword
Post 2 - is a broader keyword ideas

Now because the second post ranks number 11, my first post has gone from the rankings. I left it as is and then a month later the first post started to rank number 1 again, and the second post disappeared from the rankings for that keyword.

Then yesterday its happened again, the second post ranks 11, and the first has gone.

How can I stop this from happening?

Ideally, I don't want post 2 to be ranking for that keyword, it only ranks for that keyword because I have an internal link from that post with the exact keyword linking to post 1

Allow me to understand your issue

Your post 1 was ranking #1 until your post 2 appeared in rank #11 and your post 1 completely disappeared from the ranks?

In this case, this is not cannibalization.

There must be a greater issue here, this is too generic to understand the whole problematic. Generally Cannibalization makes a post not increase in rankings but if you were top #1 and dissapeared then something is hindering your first post and is not only the second one.

yes that's exactly it, post 1 was ranking #1, the post wasn't ranking at all for the keyword (I didn't want it to anyways)
then post 1 disappeared, but post 2 started ranking #11 for that keyword

a month later it switched back to how it was originally

with post 1 ranking #1 and 2nd post disappearing, but just a few days ago its reversed back again, but I'm not sure why?

Both the articles I wrote, not rewritten

Don't overthink it. If Google don't rank the other page means it sees it as less authoritative and if appears to be duplicate then it's gone.
Redirect it to the ranking page and move on.
And don't touch the ranking page.

Redirect t the page that was ranking #1 which has no disapeared to the other page that's ranking #11?

You have to understand keyword cannibalization and you should fix it.
