SEO for service and e commerce website

Hello everyone,

Last year I started my own landscaping business. Built a website where I show my work and what I do. Currently, I have lots of time and have decided to start an e-commerce store in the same niche. Actually reselling the same equipment I use for ongoing projects.

From standpoint of SEO and convenience do I need to keep my service website separate from the e-commerce store? Or I can build an e-commerce store on the website where people find my service and the products I am selling? Maybe there are other factors I do know about.

My main competitor does have 2 separate websites where the service website has links to the eCommerce store.

I mean, you can do both on the same site.

Like people do with e-commerce stores + blog. but in your case, it would be e-commerce + services.

It depends on how you want to grow or how high you want to grow. If you just think that I would sell a few products related to my service, you can opt for a single website. I mean, for a small business, a single website should suffice. However, if you believe or have a strong desire to turn it into a brand, I would advise you to create a separate website that you can promote on other platforms and that will also help you with SEO. So it totally depends on yourself. If you want to be big, make separate websites; if you don't, a single website will suffice.

I would personally suggest you start a different website. And there are some other factors to consider here, like if you want to make an eCommerce store, most people's choice is Shopify. You cannot expect to have better e-commerce performance on a traditional CMS like WordPress, so this context also demands two different websites as well. You are totally right. I will go with two separate websites, where the service website will be built on WP, while the E-commerce on Shopify.

If you start a new website for selling products, it may take a lot of time to gain authority. So, it is better to start the store on the same website.

I would have both on the same site as you could use the two could complement each other. The more traffic you pull in from the e-commerce side of things the more people you can send over to the other side advice versa. Also, it will open new doors to the amount of content you can make and have on your site.

Interesting question, when I research big G and see that big newspaper sites popping up multiple times in G, so it looks like they have all their content, no matter if it is information, cases, news, comnmnercials all on on their root domain, maybe they use subdirectories, like many of us doing also.

Like my idol DanLok, he offers serveral services on his website, what would happen to seo and traffic , when he separate his "blogging" content and videos to separate sites (another domain) then link to each other. (multiple domains- no subdomains) ?

Would this results in better seo ranking or higher organic traffic increases?

I see often graphics on some seo agencies sites who showing that the traffic increases when a site owner merges his subdomain to his root domain main site, and decreases when they separate their main site into subdomains. I not know if this is true, when the traffic would going so damaged going down on subdomains, so why Hubspot using their blogs subdomain still today, so my thoughts?

When you see the structure of Gawker media with their multiple sites, their categories, topics are often overlapping, but they get multiple streams of traffic.

I asked 8 (!) seo agencies and coaches last week, till today not got any email response from them, must be a huge secret.

So for me there are only two options here from these eight emails I send out last week and never got response:
a) either they have no idea about this seo method
b) or they be silence and telling lies ..... hide the real behind this seo method

I will do both on the same website if they are closely related.

So you can have a stronger topical authority on the subject giving you a boost on both sides when you boost on one front. It's already not easy to rank on one website, there's no reason to make it two times more difficult.
