What is the difference between White Hat SEO and Black hat SEO?

White Hat SEO is a set of techniques used to optimize a website in order to increase its visibility organically and comply with the terms of service and quality guidelines of search engines.
Black Hat SEO is a set of techniques used to manipulate search engine algorithms to gain higher rankings on search engine result pages. These techniques often involve manipulating the content of websites, cloaking, keyword stuffing, link buying, link farms.

The terms 'white hat' and 'black hat' are commonplace in SEO. Put simply, white hat refers to good SEO practices that search engines recommend, while black hat refers to bad SEO practices that break search engine rules.

I'm not expert in both, but for simple explanation,
white hat is the "legal" practice. I can't found any simpler word to explain, sorry.
black hat is the "fast" practice
I'm still newbie, but trying to help, and someone please correct me if I got wrong understanding

SEO practices of a good guy during his initial IM days are called as - 'White hat' :)
SEO practices of a good guy once he becomes a seasoned marketer are called as - 'Black hat':D

White Hat SEO is ethical and uses best practices to improve website rankings through quality content, user experience, and relevant backlinks. Black Hat SEO is unethical and uses spammy tactics to manipulate rankings through shortcuts that can result in penalties or even being banned from search results. White Hat SEO creates value for users, while Black Hat SEO is focused on short-term gains and can harm a website's long-term success and reputation.

  • Black hat SEO refers to attempts to improve rankings in ways that are not approved by search engines and involve deception. They go against current search engine guidelines.
  • White hat SEO refers to use of good practice methods to achieve high search engine rankings.

What... What is that?

Why would someone draw that?

Where did you find that? DeviantArt?

I have so many questions.

Edit:

Okay, so I looked into this, and I regret that decision.

That image is some kinky shipping art from DeviantArt (of course) about some cartoon called "Villainous".

I just don't have anything else to say. My internet crashed after looking this up, so I'm going to stay away from this.

The big difference is that white-hat SEO practitioners focus on following Google's website guidelines.

They also put a lot of effort into ensuring that whatever content they publish online lives up to Google's initiatives, such as EAAT and YMYL.

Black-hat SEO, on the other hand, focuses on what works quickly.

So if this means breaking Google's rules, then so be it.

The upside of black-hat SEO is that you get results way faster than white-hate SEO.

Keep in mind that the Google Sandbox is real.

This means that when you put up a website, it can take anywhere from six months to a year or even more for organic traffic to appear.

And there is no guarantee that traffic will appear.

With black-hat SEO, traffic appears faster, and you have a higher chance of getting traffic.

The downside of black hat is that your sites will probably die sooner because you're doing stuff Google hates.

People who play the black-hat game have a lot of money because it is a burn-and-churn operation.

You buy hundreds of domain names, put up sites, run all sorts of bots, half of your empire gets destroyed, and you buy more domain names and put up more websites and repeat this process again and again.

You often do all this for a few dollars per website, but those dollars add up.

The money is there, and until Google makes black-hat SEO an expensive game to play, I see it going nowhere soon.

But with all that said, this white hat versus black hat discussion might eventually be moot and irrelevant.

Why? ChatGPT.

If ChatGPT succeeds in changing consumer expectations of the search experience, then it's game over for SEO as we know it.

At that point, people will no longer expect to see a list of links to click through to piece together the "correct answer" in their heads.

ChatGPT will do all of that for them because ChatGPT gives you the answer when you type a question.

Bing might give you citations and sources at the bottom, but most people don't care for any of that if they already have the answer.

That is a big challenge for SEO.
