Where exactly do you get 401 unauthorized? TwitterFeed should be automatic, and the only way you should be able to view it's communication with another host is through

in twitterfeed if you are on the dashboard and click switch to plain list view at the bottom it give the status of each of your feeds. All except identi.ca is showing an alert of 401 Unauthorized. For instance ive tried various feeds on bleeper.de. Added bleeper.de as the server, added user and pass and clicked "Test statusnet authentication" which passed. But every half hour same thing from the plain list view - 401 Unauthorized

Just to get this right......with the script you don't need twitterfeed, right?

Yes, you won't need twitterfeed at all. I'm trying to give us a good substitute before too many people abuse twtterfeed and they decide to ban people/put limits on their servers, etc. Plus, it will end up having a few more features than twitterfeed & you'll be able to set it up a lot faster.

I'm far from done with it, but right now it's functional.

Nice work on the script mate, legend... cant wait to try it.
Will twitterfeed post your old posts or only new ones? - it did post one of my old ones last night but i have set it to only post every 24 hours in case i get slapped for using to much of their bandwidth.

It will only post the new ones. It takes note of the date of the last post, and adds any new ones that come after that.

I have confirmed that twitterfeed is not working on A LOT of these servers. Don't know why. But the script posted above DOES post to them, so I'd use that for now.

I should have one that updates the posts it makes via your RSS feed in a few hours. Then it will be "autoblog-compatable".

I too have a dedicated server thinking of running one of these... let me know if anyone has similar plans...

excellent mate, keep up the great work. ive been working my ass of all night creating an imacro to do this automatically via twitterfeed. Works perfectly but i only used it with 20 sites as i didnt want to flood twitterfeed.

Unfortunately though my macro works perfect, twitterfeed does not and all except identi.ca show 401 Unauthorized.

So the only way this can work is via posting direct, via plugin that moroni_chaos is working on.

This twitterfeed method does not work, but can be excellent if we bypass via plugin or some other means

Anyone care to update these plugins to make them work with FF 3.6? It's a simple line of code when you edit the plugin to include the current version. I love FF plugins but it's a nightmare for the writers because when they update FF they have to update their plugins. WTF this isn't wordpress.

There has to be a way around this madness  I mean you find these cool plugins, get attached to them. An update arrives and renders them useless. That's a pain in the ass. I'm surprised that FF is in version 3.6* and they haven't addressed this yet.
<snip>

You might want to take a look at the "Nightly Tester Tools" addon for Firefox. It has a feature that allows you to skip the compatibility checks, but won't help much if the addon is *actually* incompatible.

@spaceinvader: Yeah I heard of ScrapeBox, but never really thought of a good use for it before this. I can usually emulate the same thing with a Google search, such as:

Code:
inurl:mode=viewprofile
^^^Collects a big list of Angela's style links^^^
Actually, I can scrape about 1,000 of them using this search:
Code:
+"public timeline" +"export data" +"StatusNet"
So if anyone else wants to help out creating a list... :)
scraping a big list of each now. do you guys need them trimmed to the root or no?

This is gonna get saturated so fast by users with like 50 autoblogs posting to each 10 times a day. It will be a shame for those like myself that have just 1 white hat site which is updated a few times a week. :o

spaceinvader, what footprint did you use to scrape your list of 1073 URLs? I checked about 30 random URLs and only 1 was using the Status Net platform.

And having that many links from a handful of sites is not going to be that valuable. I think each website should only do like 1 post a day to that in order to keep it low-key, otherwise these services will take action and we will all lose out.

do the math 50 blogs X 20 posts a day = 1,000 postings X 100 BHW users = 100,000 posts per day... i think that will throw up red flags on all the servers.

But if we each run our own server/ clone, develop a small network keep it to 1 or 2 posts per site plus all the other servers out there, we can use this for a very long time. Either way you look at it 1 post per day at the end of the week you still have 7 posts per site X 50 sites? = 350 links a week

Already did both. One big folder with two separate folders inside. Seperated by the footprint. Went ahead and trimmed them, removed duplicates.

I take it then that this isn't going to either be a Plugin or a Script then.

Read the whole post, very interesting read, I have been playing with TwitterFeed and all the other sites you mentioned for some time now.

If you do decide to release this as either a Script or a Pugin I would be interested.

Not really interested in a membership subscription but I can understand why this is so.

:)

Well it isn't going to be paid, it's just going to be free until it starts getting slightly overcrowded, then I'm not going to accept any more memberships. I may also limit the posts/day per account to a reasonable number.

Your going to be able to point a cron-job at something like this:

Code:

Good job moronic_kaos - I'd even pay for a gem like this. I'm good with everything so far.. but cron jobs, I have no idea where to get started lol. Nonetheless, I look forward to seeing what you come up with. :)

You definitely know your stuff.

Yes, I fully understand that.

I was only either enquiring or simply asking if this was going to be available at a later date as either a plugin or script.

Would be willing to pay.

If it isn't then fine.

:)

I have my own DS.

Cron jobs are a lot simpler than people explain them to be. All you have to do is create one (most webserver's Cpanel's have an wizard) and point it at a url. There's no scripting or anything you have to do. Just point it at the url and tell it how often to access that url.

They do the same thing as if you were to go to "example.com/sample.php" and refresh the page every 5 minutes.

Most of the tutorials out there are to modify apache to do special things with cron jobs, but if you have a commercial web server (like hostgator or even 000webhost) you can configure it in the Cpanel.

You can also use services like setcronjob.com for free.
