Many of the specialists here understand the need of site audits, but many simply grasp the basics and find the process difficult and intimidating, Like me, LOL
So, here are some pointers I picked up while learning.

SEO audit - What for? - To assess the site's health, check for spam, and get ideas on how to optimize it.
It is critical since our Big "G" is always bringing out algorithm updates to make it more user friendly in terms of technology.

Its cost? – It obviously depends on the tool you choose and the size of your business

What are the features covered in an SEO audit
• Sitemap
• Anchor text
• Robots.txt – this can make or break the site’s performance in search results
• Meta tags review
• Crawl errors – in GSC – all forms of not found issues should be addressed
• Multiple URLs
• SSL certification
• Minification of CSS files and Java script files – as more than one CSS and Java script files leads to increased loading time’
• Image optimization & mobile optimization
• Keyword health checks
• Industry trends
• Content optimization
• Links – Make sure your site has clean link profile
• Be organized in site structure

Some popular SEO audit tools
  • Screaming frog’s SEO spider
  • Google Analytics and webmaster tools check my links
  • SEO report card
  • MOZ’s Crawl test tool
  • Semrush
  • Majestic
  • Tools for page speed check– Yslow, Google’s Page speed insights
Perhaps you have a great tip that I missed.
In any case, please let me know by posting a comment below.
Thanks for taking time!!

Good share.

I always reply on the site audit conductor in SEMRush. It is mostly accurate. I spend a lot of time recording the errores that it points out. So it is all in one at one place tool for me.

Yeah, it does most of the work and it is handy too.
Nice share, OP. Seems you've covered the major points.
Thank you mate

Google Analytics and webmaster tools

See what keywords are ranking on the 2nd,3rd, etc pages of Google, output them and create a strategy to build pages targeting those keywords

Nice share :)! In addition, SEOquake can help you diagnose a few on-page issues.

Can you elaborate on industry trends, explain what it is and how you work it?
Thank you!

Industry trends is the development in the specified sector you chose to be your niche.
Knowing those industrial trends helps you to get updated, to know the content trends and along with getting to know how your brand is mentioned on your site and other 3rd party sites.

Do you know a good SEOquake alternative?
May I ask why you are looking for an alternative to SEOquake? You can just add the SEOquake Chrome extension, & it's easy to use. Semrush will be a good alternative to SEOquake.

can you reclarify your question. kind of confused
"SITE" audit and "SEO" audit confused with that! My apologise.
Added competitor analysis!!

Devs including multiple bloated js libraries for no real reason is one of my bugbears. Loading the whole jQuery lib just to check a form or output a message. So many Wordpress themes are guilty of this.
