Some people are speculating that the end is nigh for SEO, as ChatGPT and services like it will get rid of the need for anyone to use Google.

With this in mind, do you believe that SEO is fading away? If you were not already involved in SEO, would you get into it now?

I don't believe it's never will fading away.
If you ask me go for it, it's great business.

SEO and the internet must always coexist. Without SEO people would not produce new content as before.

The process is long and you just waiting for something everytime every update everything is stressfull and problematic idk. (I'm full time SEO)

Google search functions very differently from chatGPT or any AI tool. Google actually provides source of information to you with very little to no modifications, hence the reliability of these information is much higher than AI that mixes things up in a bid to make them seem unique.

ChatGPT is fond of mixing both accurate and inaccurate information in one answer and if you don't know what you're looking for or how it actually should be, you're bound to fail. An example is asking it for coding solutions and other confusing questions. Google on the other hand doesn't have to think much.

It would cost so much for chatGPT to produce results that are very much reliable without any iota of doubt.

Finally, SEO is not dying anytime soon. You could get in now or wait till 10 years time. It's your choice to make.

This is no different to saying is it a good time to get into graphic design, as Ai images are now here.

The above is the problem with AI images.

Now!
The best time to enter a thing is now!

They say it was easier to rank in top 3 soe years ago with low quality spam links.... well... everyone had access to cheap links, how easy was it?
They sai ppc was easier some years ago.. same here

The thuth is that if you are just startig now then you see the current aglo and so proper seo or ppc now. What works now wont work tomorrow. You need to adapt quickly.

If you are managing 1 website or more, you must seo
Unless you don't need customers

Yes and no. If you do SEO the old way and are unwilling to adopt then a simple no.

Yes, if you are open minded and make use of AI, play it smart. In the end it's all about marketing, branding that land clients.

Lot of them don't have the time/need to do everything on their own using AI or tools. That is why they outsource.

Also small players won't like to hire someone in-house and increase their fixed and operational costs.

So there is always a market.

On a side note, sales and marketing can be never be replaced.

I remember going to physical meetings, seminars to network 12-14 years ago. I had this business card pouch where I would sort and arrange cards I collect. Fast forward and 2018-19 it was all mostly online, building funnels, a/b testing etc.

So the methods, tools may change. But sales/marketing are evergreen

Search on upwork for SEO jobs, and you will see hundreds of new jobs posted daily. I have clients from all over the world, and always getting new clients added.

It all depends on the instructions you give any Ai tool and how specific you are with the directions and requirements.
Interesting, I've actually used DallE and I gave it a pretty straightforward instruction. From afar off, the results looked okay but on closer inspection it's the same story as always.

Although there are times, it would perform great snd produce really nice results. But it's never something to totally rely on.

Yeah definitely!

Just consider AI as just a tool to give an idea. It will not give exact results for all queries that people want.

SEO is not fading away. Everything is changing gradually. Have to be updated.

Everything became chargeable now. Have to spend much and provide good quality work.

SEO as we all know, is search engine optimization, which is the optimization of the way (ranking of) an "online asset" appears in a search engine. That "online asset" may be a website, it may be a video, etc. The search engine may be Google, Microsoft's Bing, YouTube, etc. As long as organic results exist on search engines, till then SEO would exist. Ofcourse, the techniques / strategies for effective SEO have been changing and will keep changing.
Nowadays, the only thing that is constant in effective SEO endeavours, is or rather needs to be change in SEO techniques and strategies.
So, is it a good time to get into SEO ? Yes. Because all search engines still provide organic search results.

A wise Shark once said -

"The best time to get into SEO was 10 years ago.

The second best time is NOW!"
