how to get a dot-com domain for free?

You don't need to get scammed into hosting by a big corporate registrar to induce you to spending on hosting AND domain registration. They should be separate anyway. There are free hosts available, register a .com for $10 and then point the nameservers to that free host and voila you are on the internet... sometimes promos for $0.99 cents, but the catch is they require a 2 year sign up with second year at full price registration. But, if you can't afford $10...

.com freebies were like literally a decade ago.
It's super hard to get them on its own now without purchasing something else.
Nowdays, the trend is to offer some weird as TLD or cctld.

As others have said, pretty much does not exist without strings attached as referenced here: https://fitsmallbusiness.com/free-domain-name/

I am curious why you want this for free? Is it in the hopes that you can then sell it for a fee? Is it because you already have unlimited hosting through a company that charges $billions to get a TLD? Is it because you have a specific TLD in mind that is expensive and your current host does not sell premium TLD's? etc.???

I have started a blog.

I believe IONOS has $1/1st year .com no strings attached. You won't find anything cheaper. But it's not worth it. Just spend $8 on namecheap.

Really I don't have a 1 cent

Then don't worry about buyinga domain. Get a job ;)

Or spam without a .com domain. Use a free subdomain or a crappy TLD.

The only time you should really care about a domain being .com is if you're doing SEO. And if you're broke you shouldn't be doing SEO (especially on a brand new domain). It will cost you hundreds/thousands and it will be months before you even see any money coming in.

Wordpress has free blogging accounts, no domain needed. At least you can learn to blog for free.

You'll be charged by the registrar regardless of whether you got the domain for free or not

is a domain or subdomain, like a "site.WordPress.com"
subdomain is free- it's not really a "Domain name" just a subdirectory on their site. But, you can learn wordpress like I stated, then I believe export to download all the content when you can afford to get a domain. That or let it run in parallel with outbound links.
