100+ Backlinks everytime you update your blog!

Some of you probably know about identi.ca. For those of you who don't know about it, its basically a clone of Twitter with a catch: All the links are Do-Follow. Best of all, it has PR7, and all the links are on the actual PR7 homepage, not hidden on some other page within the site!

But what you probably don't know is that identi.ca is a sample site created by StatusNet in order to advertise their product. StatusNet is a MicroBlogging platform that anyone can use to create an entirely different MicroBlog, much the same way as WordPress is used to create a blogging site. But StatusNet is not primarily used to communicate on. It was created to post the "status" of a network or blog, hence the name.

That means that there is a whole bunch of people that own sites that are nearly identical to identi.ca. And guess what else? There aren't any no-follow tags! There's entire network of Do-Follow MicroBlogs just waiting for your links. So if only we had a big list of these sites.......

Problem solved.

I counted 128 sites, not including the ones under "not working". I also did a who.is query on a lot of them, and I have yet to find two that were registered on the same date, by the same person, or who use the same IP for their servers. This means that Google will regard them all as completely different websites, and therefore you will get links from 100+ URLs.

But, who wants to sit there and update 100 different sites every time they post to their blogs? I know I dont! So what do we do? We automate it:

Sign up and add your blog's feed. Then, under available services, click "laconia". Start with Identi.ca, and then create more "laconia" services for every site in the "list of servers" above you plan on using. Just add your usernames, passwords, and the sites URL. You needn't worry about any of the other options. You can also use multiple RSS Feeds on one account, so it's easy to keep things organized.

Now try it out! Create a new blog post. A Do-Follow link will automatically be posted on the homepage of 100+ sites, without you doing a thing! You don't even need a WordPress plugin to do it, and it can also be used with Blogger blogs or any other site that uses an RSS feed!

The only pain-in-the-ass part: You have to sign up for accounts on all these sites. Unfortunately, I don't have a way around that.

Remember, this isn't spamming. The purpose of all of these sites is to show the "status" of many different blogs.

Pretty sweet idea, would definitly get some backlinks into new websites quite quickly and obviously bring in a bit of traffic. I might have to look into this more, I've already had a couple of ideas on how to automate it.

Yea, as mentioned above, twitterfeed takes your newest blog posts and throws them up on this. You just have to set everything up initially.

Actually, I was working on the same issue too, and that's how I found twitterfeed. I found this article (its the first Google result for "twitter to identi.ca")

It basically explains how to do it using Yahoo Pipes, because apparently there was an issue with the formatting in 2008. But I don't think you have to go through all that BS today.

Anyway, I started to look into exactly what laconi.ca was... and found the list of sites.

Well, a url shortener is typically just a standard 301 redirect. This tells Google that the site was "permanently moved" from this location. The link is then accredited to the site it directs to.

BTW: It is identi.ca that forces the shortened link, not twitterfeed. If there is enough space (140 charactors), it will post the full link.

I'm not gonna lie, they probably wont bring in too much traffic from these sites themselves. But Google likes to crawl StatusNet sites a lot, so I think of it as more of a SEO linkbuilding strategy than something to directly get traffic from.

You might get a few visitors from these sites though. I've seen people chatting on them once in awhile without posting links.

I have made initial signups at twitterfeed, added my earlier identi.ca login, facebook, twitter etc.

I done a quick url scrapper on the statusnet ListOfServers page and got 142 urls, but they are fully not identica clones.. just got all urls in that page..

Now I am signing up with identica clone sites..
Will update later..

PS: some of the identica clones not allowing signups.. some saying they closed registration and some saying invitation only.

PPS: I am using AllSubmitter 4.7 for account creation.
I use AllSubmitter for almost all purposes like article submission, directory submission, url scraping, duplicate url checking, PR checking, bookmarking submission, account creation, blog commenting, rss feed submission, profile creation.. list is endless.. Its a wonderful Russian piece of software..

Sorry, I assumed that identi.ca was shortening the links because if you hover over the link with your mouse, it shows the full URL (right click>>>properties shows the "title" tag of the hyperlink to be the full URL as well). I don't know how twitterfeed would be able to send something like that. Or maybe identi.ca is smart enough to follow the link?

Plus, I got it a little confused from the autposting plugin for wordpress that allows the URL I was using before this.

It would appear the tinyURLS (and probably the other URL shortening services) do use a 301 redirect, so the link juice should in theory be redirected also. Good news.

Because bit.ly doesn't re-use our links, we consider our redirects to be permanent."

So you shouldn't have any problems using bit.ly (what twitterfeed uses) as a URL shortener to pass linkjuice & PR.

One thing: we will have to find a way to ping the home pages of all of those identi.ca clones when we post in our blog

but twitterfeed don't post in real time... maybe if we use a plugin for wordpress... I will have to research this
