Maybe I'm deluding myself, but couldn't the ability to edit hundreds of thousands, if not millions of wikipedia articles, (without even having to have an account) which get a lot of traffic, be taken advantage of when it comes to affiliate marketing, etc?

I mean, I tried editing a few random articles which are ranked number one on google for keywords which get a lot of monthly searches and each time my edit was immediately approved with a link.

So why is this something that isn't more talked about when it comes to traffic generation?

Are you posting in the English version?
If there is something off with your link and it's on the English version, most likely a moderator will go through the page sooner or later, if your link is not good enough and you are posting it multiple times, you might get blacklisted.

I have seen some services here over the years for the same. However, you are missing one of the most important aspect here - the moderators. All changes you make there has a changelog that is clearly visible to everyone. It is hard to fool them.


But there can be some ways I think. For example, if you find a broken link in the page, and you recreate that page and update the link. That might stay for a while.

Are you posting in the English version?
If there is something off with your link and it's on the English version, most likely a moderator will go through the page sooner or later, if your link is not good enough and you are posting it multiple times, you might get blacklisted.

Even if you're spamming, you'll still get a window of time before it's removed, right? And if you're blacklisted, just reset your IP or use a proxy maybe?

Your website gets blacklisted, not your IP.

This, these wiki moderators are usually on a higher powertrip than reddit mods.
At times, even if you provide the best citation and what not to fact check, they will revert it back and say fuck you if it isn't from the next triple A website.

Let's say if I wanted to update Dogs, if that isn't coming from AKC or the ASPCA, but instead Petfinder, they will say no.
Having an "account" doesn't really change that either.

A few of my websites got blacklisted after the very first try.
Also, (also depending on mod) if you use an account, if they blacklist 1 site, they will take down all the other links associated with that IP/account too. (Happened to me, that fucking mod was a total cunt, but that's another story)

So no, Wiki isn't as easy as may would like to think.
It works, yes it works but the risk is high and it doesn't always work.

OP how much traffic you got from that try? I tried that few years ago and got my site banned. Then I got angry and started negative seo attack but it didnt work out. I was noob with anger issues.

I was able to post with URL shortener links.
With some link shorteners such as tinycc you can change the destination later on. So after the mods have reviewed your link, maybe you could change the destination several hours later?

URL shorteners are a sure-way to get your link removed and url blacklisted.
Posting an URL is easy, i can probably post porn link on a a pet page easily.
Having it stay there after mods do their daily/weekly/monthly reviews is the issue.

Mods don't "review" things once, it's a constant thing.
