Hey guys, I want to begin Shopify Dropshipping or Amazon FBA but I'm not sure which one would be best to start off in. I currently have 2.5k to invest and am looking for something I can continue to grow and work on in the long run. Would Dropshipping through Shopify be ideal until I get more money I can spend into FBA? Im asking for someone with experience to please shed some light and help me out with some knowledgeable advice. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Amazon FBA needs big budget, with your budget may you can check Amazon KDP , it's a great business model and you can outsource the work. Search for a good course to study how to start first.

Hey thanks for the response! I will definitely look into this as I have seen many other posts talking about it and have actually written a few novels as a hobby before so it would actually be something I am very interested in. Any course suggestions?

With that amount of capital, I recommend dropshipping
it's easier for you to get started and find success

Honestly you need a bigger budget regardless of which of these you want to start with.

You'll burn through 2.5 K quicker than you think.

You can't do ads nor SEO for this amount. You might have more luck doing influencer marketing with that budget.

You can check in udemy for an updated course from someone that has already did that succesfully.

Thank you for the responses everyone. You are greatly appreciated

Agreed with the members above you will need a higher budget. Back then around 2010 it was much easier, less competition therefore the budget could be less.

with Amazon FBA, Amazon has their own traffic, they help you ship products to your client's doors, and you can enable ads campaign using their PPC. With Shopify or your own individual website/store you will have to create ads attract new customers onto your website, you will have to manage shipments.

Dropshipping you will be competing with other sellers of the Same products with price war.

The game is played differently.

Gotcha, thanks for this!

He can most definitely start dropshipping with 2.5k, most people start with way less. Of course if he’s not an expert in media buying he will lose some capital before profit but that’s apart of the game and 2.5k will be a big enough cushion for the learning curve. To say he “CANT” is completely wrong.

And there’s no way I would recommend influencer marketing with only 2.5k. Atleast with paid advertising your buying data that can be assessed, with influencer marketing ur basically buying a shout-out hoping it converts to sales.. I wouldn’t take that risk.

Lol good luck.

Why don't you put one journey thread up and show that ad spend and process with $2.5 K

You are talking about things that nobody here has openly been able to replicate on the journey section with this low amount and dropshipping ads, so these are just words that you randomly throw around.

You can start dropshipping with Shopify , because it doesn't take many monet to start off .
With Amazon FBA , you must pay monthly fee and many different fee .

now that you mention it I might do just that. 2.5k is more than enough to get results if we are talking media buying, especially Facebook ads. I’m not just throwing words around, dropshipping is apart of my business model for every brand I launch until I find a winner then I switch to other fulfillment methods for quicker shipping, better customer experience etc. I’m not claiming to be a guru or somebody that knows it all, but iv made over 100k rev this year on just one of my brands and I started with less than 2.5k that’s how I know for a fact you telling the OP he “CANT” is very misleading. Sure he might need more for Amazon FBA because he has to buy inventory but not for dropshipping. All the OP need is the basic skill set of how to read metrics of the ad campaign and he can out source his creatives and he should be fine.

If you can get expert help then both option will preferable but i recommend personally Shopify dropshipping will more profitable than amazon

Then go ahead and do it.

There is a reason why people haven't done it.

Not just a majority couldn't do it but an overwhelming majority won't be able to pull off anything close to $2.5 K.

All the OP need is the basic skill set of how to read metrics of the ad campaign and he can out source his creatives and he should be fine.
Oh yeah, just the only thing he needs is to run Facebook ads successfully. The tiny thing :D

What the OP actually needs is to do everything by himself considering that he spends this entire budget on ads only:

  • Build out a decent site by himself - Since outsourcing with his budget makes this impossible.
  • Learn how to use Pixels and analytics that correlate with the future ad campaigns
  • Find winning products - He has only 1 shot with this budget.
  • Generate/design high-converting ads - Considering they have no skills whatsoever how much money will be buried here?
  • Have a vast understanding of the FB ad system and targeting
  • No proper A/B testing because of the lack of funds - This means his only strategy would be to hope that everything falls in perfect order.

I'll tell you what. You go and do this and then we can talk. From time to time I see these people popping up here and always claim unrealistic things that they can't replicate themselves. This is not a walk in the park and the OP's failure with this is more than likely because most people are failing with larger budgets than 2.5 K - I'll be waiting for that journey thread, good luck.

theres no direct answer. Everyone has different preferences, business models. Not everyone wins, no everyone loses. Its their own personal experience.

What you go through will be on YOU, there are various factors that will allow you make more, spend more, make less, spend less.

if your leaning more on dropshipping then go for it, if its more on Amazon FBA, go for it.

its time to get to work.

Lol why do people speak with so much authority based on their own limited experience. Sure its quite difficult for a newbie to achieve that but to say no one has done it with 2.5k with so much confidence is quite laughable. People are different just because someone had a larger budget and failed doesnt automatically mean someone with a lower budget will do so as well. I mean this was just last year and @TraderBane did it with 2k so even less than what you're saying is impossible

Did you even read his journey thread before you commented?

In case you didn't:

This is purely from influencer marketing. I don't have much data to go off of as you can see, but each ad I pay anywhere from $10-25. I've found one that does $25 and it brings around $100-200 in sales each time. From the $500 in sales, probably half of it is profit. (2 refunded sales are from paypal checkout, which i cancelled bc I didn't want to deal with paypal at all).

At this rate, I'm fairly confident that I can do $1k of profit a month, which is why I set the profit goal as 3k a month.

I hate influencer marketing. I hate reaching out to influencers, and asking about prices, and always having to rely on them to share the post or whatever. Most of them are lazy and not pleasant to deal with. I just hate it. Which is why the ultimate goal is to find success in FB/Google Ads. Also I should mention that I'm relying on the US audience, while NOT living in the US. Which means I have to be up at 2-5 AM in my timezone to hit the golden hours of the US audience which is pretty inconvenient for me, given that I have my life to live.

However at this point, I have no other choice but to do this for now at least. As this is the most efficient way to see some sort of success. I will eventually start testing facebook ads with the profit I make from the sales.

Go over his journey threads before you post something that is out of context. He did influencer marketing as well to gather the funds, which is exactly what I suggested above.
