Monetizing addiction/wellness niches

I'm a writer in the addiction and wellness niches, mainly writing for rehabs, addiction blogs etc.

I've been writing for other people but would now like to set up my own business.

My initial idea was to set up a blog for people wanting to come to rehab in SE Asia, with content like "Why go to rehab in Thailand", "Best rehabs in SE Asia" etc. I have connections to rehabs over there and would monetize it by sending prospects to them. A bit like this: https://rehabs.asia .

Unfortunately, my SEO person told me this morning that there is low search volume for KWs related to rehab in SE Asia. I thought this was strange as I know that rehab in SE Asia is big business. I have no KW tools and little undestanding of KW research, though, so have no way to confirm this is accurate.

My question is: What is the best way of making money from my addiction writing skills? Thanks.

This is a really interesting one as I've been watching a really good YouTuber from my hometown the past few weeks talking about how his experience going cold turkey was made so much better by rehabs in Asia... I'm going to put more thought into this for you, I'll be back.

1. Write for medium.com
2. Sell articles. Contact blog owners of the same niche and ask if they want to buy guest posts (or sell on Fiverr). If some rehab center has a blog, ask if you could write for them.
3. Find an affiliate product and promote it on your posts
4. Create a course or ebook and sell it
5. Write video scripts, publish youbube videos and monetize them
6. Answer questions related to topic on quora and find a way to monetize your answers
7. Start an Instagram page, share tips and monetize

Here are just few. If you are a good writer and really know what you are talking about, there is no way that you couldn't make big bucks, the question is which way you choose. GL

He's only partially correct.
Just because it's low volume, it doesn't mean it can't be lucrative.
Secondly, you need to research other terms. Here's an example from ahrefs:

A high CPC means it may well be lucrative, for instance if people are willing to travel to Thailand for rehab then they likely have $$$ to spend.

My question is: What is the best way of making money from my addiction writing skills? Thanks.

You could try freelance sites like Upwork or copywriting groups on Facebook or Linkedin.

Helanderio, I have already been writing SEO content in the niche for quite a few years, so I feel like writing for medium.com would be a step backwards (though I am happy to be proved wrong on this). I already sell articles and am not interested in doing any of the other things you suggested.

I guess this has solidified that I want to go ahead with my original idea. SEOWhizz I am gonna take your advice on board and look for other keywords to use for this project. I'm also going to use a different SEO person for this, as I feel the one I have been talking with dropped the ball and should have offered me alternatives.

Well if you have enough experience on this niche ,create a product and list it on affiliate networks like clickbank etc
Then try to promote your product throught content creation
For example you can create blog post related to your niche and recommend your product in your blog posts
also open a yt channel and post quality videos related to your niche and in the end recommend your product in your video description
Do this also for social media be active on twitter ,quora ,fb groups ,tiktok ,pinterest ,
And the most important thing build an email list and build a relationship with your list and from time to time you can promote affiliate offers

You can get a lot of traffic from medium + backlinks.

Also, I'll recommend you complete "fundamentals of digital marketing" -course by Google. By that, you will learn that nowadays SEO is bs. The only thing that really matters in 2022 is quality, quality and once again, quality (and that's never gonna change). So forget keyword research, if you know there are potential clients, do what Tesla did - 0% on marketing, 110% on offering the best possible product.

But personally, I think your biggest weakness is a lack of understanding of your customers. Is "rehab Thailand" really a relevant keyword? Or are target customers googling something else? For example, if I get hungry, I won't google "how to get rid of hunger", I will google something like "pizza place near me" or something like that.

Rehab Thailand is a KW SEOWhizz suggested, not one that I came up with. I suspect it is a KW that is relevant, though.

The main advantage of rehab in SE Asia is that you get more bangs for your buck. A service comparable to a luxury US rehab is a fraction of the cost. So I suspect much of the content I produce will be aimed towards people looking for affordable rehab.

I'll also have some content along the lines of "Complete guide to rehab in Thailand" etc.

I just don't see what a product could be for the addiction niche? The rehab industry is currently thriving (unfortunately), so I feel this is where I should focus my attention.

well on clickbank you can find products related to almost any addiction .For example : quit smoking .quit marijuana ,quit alcohol etc

Your best bet would be to write for established sites in the Health niche and charge more
It's hard to rank in YMYL niches without enough credibility

This is basically what I'm doing already.

Do you not think the referral website idea is even worth trying? What do you mean by credibility?

Well why not try to create a ebook with your best information and sell it to people as an affiliate product ? in this way you know that you create real value to people .If people see you as an authority ,a helper who bring them value ,then they will buy from you

I feel like the market for rehabs in SE Asia is too small to make money from something low ticket. I could write an ebook about addiction in general but there are already a bunch of ebooks like this.

Ballpark, how many articles would I be looking at writing before I can rank for keywords related to SE Asia rehabs? And how much time should I spend getting backlinks?
