I was going through the messages on my flippa account and just came across a website I was trying to buy 2y ago.

It is pure duplicate content,it scapes some popular sites.

It ranks like crazy and goes up....

i made a few dup contents tests, failed in Google, success on others (bing, duck, etc.)
on the other hand, you can't argue with other's success.
probably I was missing something they know...

Did you used an expired domain? That seems to want to great on Bing

it's done by all the huge news sites as well.
A well-structured website can surely be one of the reasons for ranking in google searches, Other than this I can say websites that are in trend and listed on the top of google searches, just because of their user base and loyal followers, social trend is also a second ranking factor. Google may look for fresh content related to any particular topic but the algorithm can't deny the credible source as Google is not sure about the information given by new websites till most people start following it and it becomes part of social signals.

If you have a lot of backlinks, that's all you need.

whoever saying duplicate content can rank, i want to ask this:

if i duplicate my site into 5-10 sites with same content, same structure, same image, can they rank?

Of course the domains, logo, theme will be different. Perhaps i could use expired domain for them.

I really want to study this

what's stopping you from doing this?

I think Google uses different rules for different sites.

Here's a user complaining; https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/c...f-my-website-and-we-are-both-ranking.1431830/

Maybe it's a myth, maybe it's not. But if you get reported, Google takes action.
A kind of fact accepted here.
duplication rate matters here.

If its a myth, many rewriter tools have not bloomed.
Since there are many updates on content improvization, duplications are finding their way out nowadays.

I have several websites, each different top level country domain. All website have the same exact content.
Duplicated content is a myth in my case.

The reason is that duplicate content can and often does have SEO consequences. The source of this confusion lies in technicalities. Many people loosely interpret any negative result as a penalty.

from my experience there are different short term and long term behaviors
for short term it was seemed that duplicated content is a myth, but for the long term ony single copy of the content was ranked high.
it wasn't the entire website, but a page from one domain and another page from another domain.

I think it real but only on manual cheeks.
But yes it exists

No, duplicate content is not a myth in SEO. Duplicate content can harm a website's search engine rankings and visibility. Search engines may penalize or de-index websites with duplicate content, leading to decreased traffic and potential loss of revenue.
To avoid these issues,
it's important to have unique and original content on a website.
