Why did it feel so good to fire the client ?

Lately, I have been "cleaning house" so to speak, cutting anything in my life, I do not need or I find toxic, to allow me me to focus on gaining a better quality of client and focus more time on my other online websites.

Lately, I have this client who I only charge $200 a month for quite intensive SEO but the guy is an absolute ass!

He want to talk on the phone for 60 mins - 90 mins, multiple times a week. Wants me to essentially mentor him but under the guise "can you show me how to do that", went out of the scope multiple times, wanting me to manage his GMB, do logo design, write articles, provide support on demand. The only thing was, he would never pay any additional fees and would become like a spoilt child, used to getting his own way, when I mentioned additional fees. He also talked me like shit!

Well today, I tried to be nice. Patient. The guy was totally blanking messages, which seems to happen every time there is invoices due, then usually a host of excuses follow, as to why he is late.. but I noticed, after the invoice is paid, he can answer his phone calls/sms very quickly but when anything to do with money, he can't

I kicked his ass to the curb. Told him I'm done! It felt so damn good! It felt very empowering, who knew loosing money could feel so good.

Moral of the story ? Have a shitty client! Don't be afraid to cut the toxicity out of your life. It can be quite a liberating experience!

I just found it weird experience in all honesty lol.

You should be sad at loosing money but in this case, I felt like celebrating.

The older I get, I just feel life is too short to be involved with assholes. I am very selective now with who I work with. I gave him an opportunity, he blew it.

Hope the door didn't hit him in the ass on the way out! haha!

Funny thing was, his attitude stinks! But he's the kind of guy that liked to twist everything.

He was even saying at the start "SEO is a con"

I thought, dude! Educate yourself. SEO isn't a scam, it's a massive industry globally! Guys an absolute moron. He's the type that thinks he knows everything but in reality, knows nothing!

Now I know and understand, why everybody and I mean everybody including his web designers, SEO guys and even his own staff at his business have left him... He plays the victim and very well too, he has that victim mentality attitude as well.. However, he doesn't see, he's the issue. His personality and attitude stinks. He acted overly nice at the start, I mean overly familiar, overly nice, but that attitude changed, when he didn't get his way and when he realised, I wouldn't keep going out of the scope of the agreement. He would get like a spoilt brat, then play like he was the victim.

He's that tyre kicker/mess around type of client - ironically, he complains about the same clients when he has to deal with them in his own business, but doesn't see or maybe he does, that he is exactly the same.

The customer is king, but sometimes, you have to put the customer in his place and let them know the limits of their influence. The more established you become, the easier it is to kick out a nuisance customer, so congrats.

It's the same feeling as getting out of a toxic relationship...any action towards getting rid of people who hurt you gives you that feeling.

It is, it's refreshing. From here on in, I am going to be vetting potential clients a lot more, sometimes though clients can be very nice, chatty, over familiar and acting all nice but they have ulterior agendas, motives for there niceness. Nobody opens up to an asshole and I remember been told of my old man once "the devil always comes wearing a smile"

Your right! This project was costing me! I even paid an additional $200 out of my own money for a VPS server for him, I told him and showed him that I am in this for the long haul, when he was acting all nice... he didn't even have the decency or common courtesy to say "Thank you"

Mental health is important, people like this effect your mental health and do not bring peace of mind or enjoyment, they feel like they are squeezing you like a lemon, trying to squeeze every last drop out of you.

This customer wasn't a customer, he was an asshole and I have no rooms for assholes in my life. Life is too short for such people. He has been put in his place, blocked out my life completely and have no interest in talking to him, working with him or even acknowledging him. He will learn eventually, that he had something good and blew it. He needs me, more than I need him. I know my self worth and it's worth more than $200 a month.

Exactly this! It was liberating, empowering. I don't regret taking on the project, as the only thing it actually did in some ways, is help me realise my own self worth and realising, I need to be very selective with who I work with and refine my vetting process. The guy isn't going anywhere! This is why everybody walks out on him and does not want to work with him. I just hope one day, he can adjust his attitude and treat people with respect they deserve.
