I started a blog 4 months back, everything looks good and sharp, and my impression and clicks keep soaring, but I have a problem.

I do proper keyword research; so, I hit the first page with every single article, but out of 60+ blog post, only about 20 is still on the first page, the rest disappears for a while. This has been happening for like two months now. How do I overcome this?

It's an expired domain with quality links, it's in the animal niche. Would backlinks help or is there something else I can do?

Reason could be the domain.
Long term you wanna ditch that domain.
Short term
1) track all your keywords daily so you will know which post disappears.
2) change the title and meta a little bit without changing the url and request reindexing via gsc.

If you mean just 20 pages are on page 1 the rest are on page 2, or 3 then it's natural. If you mean they are not on any page, then they may have been deindexed but it sounds just like a dance.

Disappeared. Not on page 2 or 3. Only 11 posts have this issue. The remaining 29 were written for bing.

Some of those articles were ai assisted.

Well, I unpublished the posts and posted them with a new link structure, and edited the metadata. I also deleted fluffs. 3 of 11 are back, still watching.
