I've been thinking about sending PMs to thousands of Facebook users a day promoting CPA offers. Can I get in law trouble by doing this?

Facebook is stepping up their compliance game with spammers. I think that generally dropping links in this manner is a bad idea. Unless you have a way to bulletproof yourself, I would stay way under the radar or avoid all together. It doesn't really matter that you didn't use your personal information. Enough spam and they will follow the money.

If you are using the event method to do this, the more targetted and detailed your message is, the less chance of getting in 'trouble' however, if you are supplying undetailed, untargeted CPA offers. Then you will get into trouble, mainly because of facebook members reporting you.

if you're using a mass-PM bot, then yes, you will get caught

there's a thread somewhere on BHW where some members were talking about getting cease and desist letters from facebook...you may want to look for that

If you get caught, they can sue you to make a point to spammers, like they have previously done.

I honestly would not recommend doing PM spam on facebook. You will have better success if you think of more clever ways to utilize all of facebook's methods of getting the word out. Directly spamming would likely get you in trouble, especially if done consistently to make consistent money. There are lots of other ways, such as groups / pages just for starters. Just my 2 cents.
