Internet body approves domain name big bang

Good read, nice to see you around again Buzzkill.

"Under the new system, the web's 1.3 billion users would be able from 2009 to buy an unlimited number of generic addresses based on common words, brands or company names, cities or proper names."

This is a new phenomenon but i'm wondering to whether it will truly have an effect on the everyday user as so far dot com has been king and a lot of ordinary people have no idea what dot biz, dot tv dot asia or the likes are.

I hope it does have a positive effect so i can boost some of my less known extensions.

That could make things very interesting.

Also, BuzzKill, huge co-sign on Black Mountain.

good to see ya back dude. so when does this take effect and does a layman like me have a chance at what might be another round of selling domains for their value?

I dont know anything other than whats in the article. A friend of mine who works for one of the big webhosts sent it to me. I had to ask if it was a hoax before I posted it.

time to start getting creative with the del.ico.us type domains (example of using the extension as part of the word).

Its really hard for the little guys to compete with the domainers, but if this does actually happen, it might open up some ground floor opportunities for those that think outside the box.

I would really love to see this kind of thing take shape so that people start to break out of the .com mode. I drove by a new loft condo place that had a giant banner that said downtownlofts.info and I was amazed. I would never even consider anything other than a .com or .net for type-ins, but if the extensions actually start to become relevant to the content of the site, well...

Thanks for the "welcome backs". I am now here to stay.

A few of us were looking on IRC were looking at TLD stats comparisons:

Pretty interesting stats. As you can see the .TV TLD has really started to take off. I don't see why the other "lower level" TLD's can't become accepted and begin to perform better themselves.

Feel bad for the people who have parked domains for a number of years to sell off..

Now I can get the domain I have always wanted without them jacking me once more.. Harr harr.
