Howdy there everyone!
Like the title suggests, my goal is to help 1 million people learn how to code through a platform {Mod Edit please don't promote your site here]
I'm planning on being completely open about the tactics I use to promote my platform as well as any revenue that the platform generates.

Latest Stats:
Total Users: 0
Revenue: $0
Expenses: ~$1500 and countless hours of time since September

TODO tomorrow:
1.
I haven't been promoting on social media at all even though I know that I should have started the moment I had the idea for this platform.
In fact, the only "promotion" I've done in the last 1.5 months since I started this project is getting some swag for myself

Oh well, starting today is better than starting tomorrow. :weep:

I will be using the following daily content plan and tuning it as I find a platform that works the best over the next few months. Until then, I will be plowing each social media site with my content for any possible leads.
I already have a steady viewership on TikTok (~3k - 15k views per video) so I believe that it will be the main driver of traffic for the first bit of time while my other social media efforts catch up.

Daily Content Plan:
  • Write 1 Blog Post
  • Write 5 Tweets outlining main posts from a blog post or inspired by other creators on my Twitter feed
  • Create 1 YouTube video (3-5 mins in length about the blog post topic.)
  • Create 1 TikTok (repurpose it to an Instagram short, Facebook Reel, and YouTube short)
  • Create an Instagram post & Pinterest Pin
I'm testing out repurpose.io (not sponsored) to auto disperse my content to various social networks.
I may move to a single day where I focus on content creation but for now, this should do.

2. Development
Pricing page copy - right now isn't informative of the actual benefits that users will get and is plain old horrible. I originally created this page as a placeholder as the rest of the website was very much in need of work. I've already written up about 70% of the copy and have a Fiverr dev helping me build out the page using Framer.com.

I'm basing the contents of the pricing page off of Neil Patel's pricing page for Ubersuggest as I feel I have a lot more learning to do in terms of sales and copywriting myself.
Why try to recreate the wheel when I can copy a master like Neil?

3. Video course uploads
The platform will have a project-based video course to take someone from 0 to programmer. These materials are already fully filmed and ready to be uploaded to the site.
I just need to actually set up the curriculum and put everything together on the site so that users can use the materials.

Anyways, it feels like the MVP is almost ready and I'm very excited to see how this project evolves!

EDIT: If anyone knows how I can make my face smaller in this post I'd really appreciate it haha

I fully build my websites using Javascript, in my opinion it's the best language that you can know as a developer but I am biased :)

You can build websites, mobile applications, video games, robotics, machine learning, and just about anything else that you can think of with Javascript without having to rely on learning another language.

Journey to Help 1 Million People Learn to Code: Update 2

Over the last 2 days, I have made the following progress on my journey

Secured a Content Partner
Can't talk too much about this one but I've secured a content partner that will be providing me with a lot of the course material I need for the platform.
This partner has hundreds of thousands of students and is allowing me to use that stat on the site as well! Huge win.

The pricing page is 98% complete.
I got the work back from my designer and I've customized it.
I need to complete a few other pages before I can link all of the buttons on this page to their appropriate places.

The actual price of my offer and some images also still need to be worked out but I'd be happy with providing the service at the current price point I have there.
Will Revisit this in the near future.

Course Curriculum Development
Now, I need to actually get this course content on the site and the curriculum worked out so that my users actually get what I'm promising on the pricing page.
This is a lot of manual uploading work and editing of videos to remove the Content Partner's logos from the intros.
I have about 25 hours of video I need to edit. I will automate a huge majority of this editing with my programming sk1llz.

Social Media
I've been getting a lot some hits on my social media but I'm really spending 90% of my time in getting v0 of the product ready as it's almost at a point I can begin charging for it.
I've uploaded 2 YouTube shorts, 3 Instagram Reels, 2 Facebook Reels, 5 Pinterest Pins, 1 Blog post, and 10 tweets in the last 2 days.

Does anyone know of a tool that allows you to track all of the engagements across your social media profiles?
For example, I love that Twitter has a dashboard view where I can see my engagement stats

Also, does anyone know of a Pinterest bot?
I used to be an avid PinBlaster user back in the day but I'm not sure if botting Pinterest is as big of a thing these days.
I will revisit the social media strategy this weekend after I've launched v0 of the website and can actually begin trying to get people to buy.

New Landing Page
The current home page is outdated as I have pivoted from being an "Interview platform" to a "Land a job platform".

I've written up a much better copy and design for the landing page and sent it to my web designer so that he can begin implementing it.
Rather than trying to make it look "cool" like the current version with animations and such, I am focusing intently on selling.

That's it for this update, next update will be on Friday.

Journey to Help 1 Million People Learn to Code: Update 3

FIRST USER!
It's been a few days since my last update but I have been making some steady progress and I have my first user!!!

I have the website in a state where I would feel comfortable having people pay for it
so hopefully next update I'll have my first paying user :)

I've been working hard to create the best content and curriculum for my students and this weekend that's my main priority going into the next week.
So far the modules are fantastic but I am going to be working to make improvements so that they're even better!

I've also started posting content consistently
YouTube Long Form Video so that people have free content to discover clientside through. My latest was a 55 minute long crash course on the basics of React.
TikTok videos -> Repurposed to Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Pinterest Pins, and Facebook Reels
Twitter posts from just my daily thoughts

My goal for the following 100 days is to post every single day. In order to accomplish this I will create a content calendar today to outline the social media posts for the next week. I want to make this process as streamlined as possible so I can spend the majority of my time actually making my product better for users.

I will hopefully be updating publicly more often as I missed my last 2 updates, uh-oh!

Will you make your course first or grow your audience then work on the course?

The course is already pretty much complete with 31 hours of content atm.
I'm currently working on building out some more content but it's already in a good spot

Best of luck with this man, I can tell the work ethic is there. Keep it up.

I'll be keeping track.

Appreciate the kind words MrSponge, hoping for some exciting upcoming updates!

Revenue today: $60
Profit today: $57
- losing about $0.88 to stripe per transaction

So I've been terrible about updating this thread but I officially launched the beta of my platform today and I already have 3 paying customers at $20 each!
This is super exciting for me as it gives me a lot of confidence that there's solid demand for this :)

The customers cost me $0 to acquire as I have been using Reddit & TikTok to advertise today.
I created 1 Reddit post and 1 TikTok post and got a few hundred people to my website so definitely proud of that!
I'm planning on going harder on these channels but I had some nasty bugs today that I fixed.

Will update more often hopefully but for now need to focus on doubling down on these

Just want to give a quick chime in here-
It's been 12 days since my last update, stats since then:

Total Revenue: $1900
Total Ad Spend: $150

I believe I'm breaking even on my cash investments up until this point, so that's a win!

All of these revenues have been through my posting on Reddit, TikTok, and Hackernews.

I'm now planning on moving forward to using some Instagram influencers to see if I can get sales without me having to do the manual work of thinking of posts to share on these various sites. I'll still be posting on these sites in the meantime to further drive sales.

I've set up a story post on an influencer's profile in my niche with 100k+ active followers that's set out to be published this weekend.
Over the next few days, I'll be reaching out to several more influencers and seeing if I can get a few more people to post my content.

That's it for now. Hopefully, I'll have an even better update the next time I post.

Cheers!

Good luck, I love the plan. Keep us posted with progress!
