Thanks for checking out my post...

I saved a keyword to my list yesterday. At the time of saving the keyword had a KD of 0.

When I checked on the keyword earlier today it jumped up to a KD of 32.

It's a good thing that I checked because I was just getting ready to write a blog post about the keyword.

Now can someone please explain how a keywords KD can jump that fast...

Thanks.

Ive come to realize that if the site already has domain authority and it starts targetting a new keyword with very low KD it makes it very simple for them to rank easier that a site with lower domain authority

I thought we were gonna talk about how low KD is scoring this season. haha

I suggest you check with at least two tools for KD, so you will more insights into KD.

It's unbelievable that the keyword moved from 0 to 32.

It happened with Ahrefs. What other tool do you suggest?

Would you please recheck it with any other tool? I didn't see this type of change happening in just one day!
I'm currently using Ahrefs. What other tool do you recommend?

KWFinder gave me the best results for KD. Just to be clear, it is not authoritative for any tool until you manually test it yourself.

I know this is a contrarian view, but KD or keyword difficulty is just one factor you should consider when selecting keywords.

At the end of the day, the keyword must fit the buyer persona of the audience you are targeting.

If you can come up with content that truly delivers on the search intent behind your keyword target, you can and probably will beat your competition.

You have to focus on intent.

And this happened to me when I didn't pay attention to keyword difficulty and focused primarily on niche specificity.

I then came up with commercial content that actually ranked in the top 3, and it took only a few months to do that.

So while KD can be important in certain contexts, by adopting a big-picture view, you can come up with content and a site structure, and a "value flow" for your audience that will deliver better results down the road.

I'm not saying you should ignore KD altogether, but it should just be one selection process.

I used KD a lot when it comes to reverse-engineering my competition, but the main "north star" factor that I pay attention to is search intent.

And I'm not talking about the type of content.

I'm talking about what people expect to "experience" when they type in one keyword instead of another into Google.

Check page 1 result by yourself.
KD only count backlinks profile to that page.
It did not measure whether the domain home page is high authority or not.

Ive seen many keywords with KD0
But when you search the keyword on Google.

Page 1 is filled with high authority dr80-90 sites.

No shit captain obvious ? really? a site with a stronger profile , better backlinks , and overall higher authority would be easier to rank than it's competitor of less authority ? :O shocked.

Sorry for that, I just had too, think I'm losing some IQ sometimes @BHW :(

Yes, but AHREFs takes into account if they are really strong for that keyword or not, for example, you'll usually see wikipedia / twitter on top of many keywords, but honestly, they are quite easy to outrank them for those particular keywords (KD = 0)....
