why does a website die and if it is dying why do some people say to leave it to die, i thought it was ride or die, on my part that is, so my question is.. is it worth reviving a dying website?

You could 301 redirect to new site.

It depends. Is it an authority website that is slowly losing relevance due to missing updates and new competitors? If it still ranks then definitely it's possible to start working on the site again and see the results. What you have to ask is: how much effort do you need to revive and what kind of extra revenue you can expect? If the answer is favorable then go for it.

Is it dying because someone built shitty links/used duplicate content/managed to get penalty for the site? If yes, then leave it alone.

When you say dying, you mean no more traffic from seo? if yes then explore media buying. Buy traffic to you website and do arbitrage.

I am not an expert, just read media buying section

Why is it dying? Penalty?

An answer to these would help. But trying to be relevant would help. New content, improvement to old non-performing content.

Unless the domain is blacklisted by google, you can revive it.

Even if you get a big penalty in GSC, I believe you can revive it.

Even if you lose rankings in a google update, you can still revive it.

It might take more time than you expect but if you keep hammering it with decent content based on good keyword research, it will come back to life.

There's many reasons a website could die.

- Blackhat SEO
- Spammy
- Thin Content
- Bad Content
- Bad Design
- Bad On-page
- Penalised
- Bad Titles/Bad Description - Leading to lower CTR
- Depending on what it was, lets say a product ? that product could be out of fashion now and people are looking for the next new shiny toy.

Now the question, should you revive it ? Well, only you can answer that... The question you should be asking yourself, Is it worth your time reviving ?

If it was making me less than a $100 when things were fine and it start dying, I would probably just leave the project and move onto something else. As the time to revive it, to make a $100 a month again, would in all honesty just suck!

In general, it is better to let a boat sink than to desperately try to patch the holes and sink anyway. The same principle applies to business. If a project is failing, and needs a lot of cash/time to restart, isn't it better to start off on a new one where you don't have to go uphill just to get back to basics?

If it's a strong domain, you could start over again with a fresh batch of articles

Because if the same effort is put on new website, it will result in more revenue.
