Domain: BrandName.com/buy-dog-food
Target keyword: buy dog food
Current links: came from 20 diffrent sites all anchored with the same exact keyword "buy dog food".
It end up getting penalty by big G.

The solution is to buy another 20 links from different sites, while anchor each of link with different variety of keyword or word.

I got few idea such..

1. https://brandname.com/buy-dog-food (naked url)
2. Brand Name Buy Dog Food (exact keyword mixed with brand name, some says it still risky??)
3. Food <-- too simple. it can be risk free, but it wont attract any click (low CTR) witch is bad.
4. Dog <-- same with 3.
5. blablablablablah click here.
6. Best site to buy dog food <-- phrase contain exact keyword

I learned from this https://fatjoe.com/natural-anchor-text-guide/
and few others.

But I still have no idea what other relevant keyword/word to anchor while at the same time increase clicks to the target page.

Anchor text over-optimization doesn't cause penalty. It merely triggers a filter. After correcting the ratio it usually bounces back in a few weeks.

20 new links might not be good enough. That would make exact keyword rich anchor texts still at 50% which is unnaturally huge for most queries.

Check the ratios of your competitors and get inspired there. You can also add around 20% more keyword rich ones coming from PBNs that checkers won't show.

You are de-optimizing now, so stay away from keyword rich ones altogether.

After I correcting the ratio, does the previous exact keyword links still gonna bring any juice?

Those are DA/DR80-90 links. Powerful, too bad now it get filtered out.
I thought it was under 20%. but when I choked the ratio, it was over 50%

Once the filter is lifted, they should starting pushing ranks again, yes.

Yeah it's pretty high.

Diversity is key! If I were in your position, I would be focusing on watering down your Anchor profile.

I know you say DA 80/90 links but in terms of Google, they really and honestly do not care about DA. They do however care about over optimization, which in your instance, seems to be the case. Try to avoid looking at the DA/PA/UR/DR and focus on campaigns with quality and relevant backlinks, with a diverse link profile and using a very diverse range of anchors, if you are looking to stay in the game long term, follow these rules and you should be fine.

Good Luck! I hope you manage to get things sorted.

Disavow the links
That's a possibility but if they can change there anchors, they may as well give that a shot first, before considering disavow. That's what I would do if I was in the OP's position but each to there own, everyone has there own strategies and approach to things. I would only consider disavowing links, if they were spammy, penalised. If they are clean sites, with high authority and I had the chance to change the anchor, I would give that a go first but hey, it's a free world, do whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Good Luck!

Some related alternatives to your keyword:

- Food for dogs
- Buy food for dogs
- Buy food for your dog
- etc

Longatil keyword:

- Purchase food for your dog
- etc

Do some on-site optimizations with blog posts with different anchors as well.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head in what I was thinking for anchor text diversity!

OP you got some good advise here, follow it!

Best of Luck!

Your best to focus 80% of your anchors now as url anchors, 10% generic and the other 10% as long tails.

Dilute down to that over next 2 to 3 weeks and by week 4 and 5 you should get rankings for the initial over optimized keyword anchors.

No more anchor keyword for me.
Just

‘more info’
‘visit this website’
‘see more’
‘this page has more information’
‘brandname.com’
‘www.brandname.com’
‘brandname’
‘http://www.brandname.com’
‘visit brandname.com’
‘visit brandname’

As long as the link is placed on relevant content based on my targeted keyword.

when you say penalty, you mean you have a manual action penalty? or drop in ranking which you assume it is a penalty?
From page 1 straight disappeared for that exact target keyword.

I use brand/url/domain and generic anchor text to dilute anchor text ratios.

From page 1 straight disappeared for that exact target keyword.
So this is easy to recover from, as being advised above, dilute with additional links with other keywords and brand/action/domain anchors.
this should come up within a few weeks.
