The Supreme Court Today................

I had intended to abandon this thread but I am surprised by the number of seemingly perfectly rational people who lead fear-based lives.

Yay for liberty

Poo-poo on the abusers who threaten this liberty by using guns to kill people who don't deserve it.

Then again, who deserves it? And who's qualified to judge? Not me. That's another thread...

The Supreme Court finally done something right and protected our 2nd amendment rights. Our founding fathers knew what they were doing.
If anyone breaks into my house I should have a right to shoot back. It would be really bad if only criminals had guns. A baseball bat is not equal to someone holding a .45

Personally, I have no fear of anyone who owns guns and really have no fear of being a victim of crime. I just find it amazing that the right to own a gun has become the right to own vast amounts, (it is unlimited right) of firearms that are so unneeded by any one individual.

Really? It is funny you say that cause this ruling was about whether or not they should be able to have guns at home in Washington DC which had a gun ban. So the laws their say that only the cops should have weapons. Even though that is the case, DC is one of the worst places in all of the US. Among tops in murder rate and violent crimes. In theory, it would be nice to have it work the other way. However, that just isn't reality.
That's absolutely true. DC has the nation's worst crime & murder rates, but it actually had a gun ban. Like they say, when you outlaw guns only outlaws will own them...

However, I think that people should only be allowed to own handguns and hunting rifles, not automatic or semi-automatic assault rifles.

And exactly who decided how many guns I need? Personally I think I need all 40 or so of mine, plus a few more. I am an avid hunter, collector, competitive shooter, and proud holder of a concealed weapons license. So based on my lifestyle I need that many guns. Each has it's own purpose.

Plus when the SHTF my friends and family will be much safer because of me.

This nation was founded by private citizens taking up arms and rebelling against the government. The USA would not exist without private citizens owning guns. The government simply wants more control over yet another area of our lives.

Lately I have got into firearms and want to buy a new one every time I get extra cash. Believe it or not I use my blackhat cash to purchase firearms. Its funny to get home from shooting at the firing range tonight a come upon this thread.
Just have a few words to say.
Ban or no ban, The bad guys will get thier guns no matter what.
There was a guy down the road that was shot at from a drive by and because the guy that was shot at had a conceal weapons permit was able to fire back and defend himself kept himself alive. He has the right to bear arms! I will practice this right and am signed up for the class to get my conceal.
Time to go wash this spent gunpowder off my arms :D

Yet its still illegal to arm bears...

I've had a gun stuck in my face on several occasions. Its not fun. But being anti gun is pointless. Its too late to turn back time, guns are here, and I dont like being told I can or cannot own anything. I am for legalization of drugs, prostitution, yelling fire in a theater.

I have lived in LA, down south, up north, in out.. There are guns everywhere. Its unfortunate but since the bad guys are able to get a gun easier than a minor can get beer, I would prefer that they think twice when making a decision as to whether or not to commit a crime because the victim might have a gun.

I live in Wisconsin, one of the few states that as far as I know does not grant a license to carry to anyone. Yet the city I live in (Milwaukee) has the lovely distinction as being one of the top cities of origin of handguns recovered from murders. Two of the recent massacres (virginia I think??) were pulled off with guns bought from the same store in Green Bay Wisconsin.

This has always been a gun toting country. Its a violent culture. Its unfortunate, but thats the reality.

I think there needs to be heavy background checks, and harsh penalties for people selling guns to criminals, but I am also sick of seeing my rights being slowly taken away piece by piece.

Besides, there's nothing better than squirrel hunting with a .50 caliber.

Whats the difference between owning 2 guns and owning 40? You are either responsible or you're not.

But be warned.. Guns are addictive.. Its hard to stop at one. My 68 year old Mother was anti gun until she shot one, but then again - she told me that demolition derbys had a sexual appeal.. so who knows.

Thank you for your kind reply.

Uptown.

The right to bear arms is the right to get shot at. Coming from a country where guns are banned and the only carriers are criminals (police in general are not armed) and only licensed shotguns are allowed.

The result is generally a safer society most gun crime remains gang related and it is thankfully still rare. When death stops being news worthy you have problems I don't imagine DC deaths even make the papers.

Unless people are trained to use weapons the right to bear them is still an issue with using them. Remember no one is trained to injure but kill. I am guessing but 90% of people who shoot some one still get charged with murder or something.

So the right as a principle is fine but using them just lands you in jail or dead. Great choices?

The constitution is 200 years old when things were different maybe it should be updated for the 21st century? But that is not likely to happen lawyers make to much money to change things.

As you probably guessed I am not US and my opinions count for squat but I love heated debate!
