What would you do in this situation

I’m in this situation right now:

I am working with a client that sells a product online and locally which they manufacture, package and ship to customers across the nation. Think something like “organic grass fed beef” (that’s not the product). So with this product you can buy it online and sometimes you can pick it up locally but it’s from different manufacturers so the quality varies.

My client wants me to target local searches across the nation in every state and large population cities for organic search traffic so that he can sell his product to those people hopefully.

If you were being paid to target a search like “where to buy organic grass fed steaks near Chicago” and your client isn’t in Chicago, would you also include actual (competing) local businesses near Chicago the visitors could buy from, even though you’re offering the same product and want to sell/ship them that product?

What do you think a good strategy is for something like this?

Thanks

So you need to verify the GMB listing and need to rank it on first search. Yes! It's possible do it. Normally it takes max 7 days to get ready everything.

My client has a GMB listing. I’ve never seen GMBs ranking for any of these queries in google search before. I also don’t know much about ranking GMB in search. We are going to be using pages (wordpress custom post type) for this.

I do not get you well. Can you rexplain this part?

Tough question. If you do not include that keyphrase I doubt you will rank long for that keyphrase. If you do include them you know some people will want to buy local and you'll just be promoting their products. I think I would not target this particular keyphrase and instead focus on other transactional local keyphrases.

Is there a particular type of store that this product can be found or customers would expect to find your product locally?

Scrape all GMBs of that category, create a local directory with those listings inside pages like:

'buy XYZ near me (city), (state)'

Parasite seo on your competitor brand search volume and local store search volume, then have ads everywhere on the pages for your product.

No there isn’t local shopping for the product 99% of the time. Sometimes you can go pick up an order but most of the time the product is shipped to the customer. But I’m sure I can make this method work even without GMBs to scrape.

Using parasites for competitor brand is a nice take on this. I like that idea a lot! :)

Thank you for your reply. This was really helpful!

I like this idea a lot too. I would add this:

Use the parasite to get ranked for your competitor's product/brand name/whatever and make it a 'review' style page where you highlight the inferiority and negatives of the competitor's product, then you seamlessly transition into your client's product and why it's superior. Drive the readers to your client's website and now you should be siphoning off a certain % of people who were going to buy the competitor but are now buying from you.

Also if there are multiple competitors in this market, I would include all of them in the review so it looks more natural and you can possibly rank for more brands/keywords too.

Personally, I only write fake reviews about my own business.

Who says it has to be fake? I'm sure you can find some negative comments others have made about the product that you can then synthesize into the review; or you can simply highlight what makes theirs inferior to yours.
