Hello SEO experts,

I need your help. One of our keywords suddenly disappeared from SERP. It was ranking in the top 1st position for the last 5 years. We recently changed our website menu and I feel since then we lost our keyword ranking. Only one category page was affected. Now the problem is sometimes it appears on the first page and sometimes nowhere in SERP. It's been more than 1 month. To recover this keyword, I changed the whole category page content, increased internal Linking, created links from guest posts, updated the title and meta description of the page, etc but still the problem is same. It is fluctuating a lot.

Please share your ideas and suggestions on how can I recover this keyword.

Are you sure, those on site changes caused the drop? or is it after the recent update?

While having a coffee I ran your site from your homepage through GTmetrix, 3 times and every time came back an error.

So I tried webpagetest to simulate a Lighthouse check. Errors;

So I tried Pingdom too, as I am a nice guy and this shows both a 404 and 500 error code

So your site has big problems that need sorting.

I have experienced this alot recently. It started around early August. One of my main keywords was position 1 mobile and desktop. Now when I check desktop the keyword from day to day disappears and reappears daily. Thankfully, I've not really seen it happen on mobile, but it still causing us to lose traffic. I think Google's recent review update, which had really helped us, may have changed the search intent of the keyword and doesn't think my format match what users are looking for - eg you can book or buy anything from my website.

We changed the website menu between 4-6 August and I can see the traffic after that. I am using the Ahrefs tool and it is showing after 6 August. The keyword is "adult cake" and our website address is "yummycake,in". Can you please suggest some solution...

Thanks for sharing this. But I am asking for this website. My keyword is "adult cake" and the website address is "yummycake.in". Other keywords like adult cake design, vulgar cake designs, adult cake online, etc are appearing on the first page. But only this keyword "adult cake" is not visible anywhere in SERP. Please share if you have solutution.

There is no such issue. All URLs are indexed and even website traffic is boosting every month. But the only problem is only one keyword is fluctuating a lot. Sometimes it appears in 2nd position, sometimes 3rd, and unfortunately sometimes nowhere. Don't know why it is fluctuating this much.

You can't do anything with that. I lost 70% keywords like that and they won't recover. It's google which controls everything. Nothing you can do something about.

Over targeted and over optimized keywords sometimes dance like that, it will came to page 1 and disappear next day and can't be seen no where then suddenly come back to page 1. Just do what you do and try to target different long tails for off page, it will be steady in few days.

I wish I could help mate, I think it naturally calmed down abit for me. I was told maybe to remove the external links I had on the page. I didn't do that but maybe that might help you

Thanks a lot for your suggestion.
