I am on fiverr as seller for some years now and used to be an active level 2 seller, close to $20K total income.

Not anymore these days as there are just too many buyers asking for $5 custom offers for work that takes an hour or so.

This week, I got another order, $20 to write a selling blog post for an affiliate site, various keywords and product details to be included. I was about to cancel the order but since it is Friday and OpenAI just cut prices, I used the playground for 10 minutes.

Inputs: The product information and a poor press release about the manufacturer.

Command "Generate a blog post with 500 words about XYZ".

Output did not require any work but formatting the titles and save the .docx.

3100 tokens used = 6 Cents cost + 10 minutes of my time.

Buyer accepted immediately and left a 5* review. Profit $15,94. Fun.

Does your gig at least point out that the content is AI generated? If it doesn't, I'd be quite disappointed if I read this thread as your client. Honesty is important.

It is, on both ends. My gig states clearly that it is NOT for sales texts, the buyer did not care but went for the cheaper price than for the cost of sales copy.
To answer your question, no, the gig description neither mentions handwritten nor AI.

The thing is it's been this way for years. I've been there back in early 2017 and decided to do my own thing but people been spinning + plagiarism checking + 'Grammarly' articles then started AI writing later on. Also resold $1 articles from another platform. I've tested it and it's undeniably familiar man only 2 maybe 3 top users have been selling the same quality using the same method.

I'd be transparent and maybe throw a fancy way to say it's AI generated and proofread etc. but i'd also make sure it's actually readable and doesn't have any typos and also fully unique.
If he did it or not, it doesn't really matter cause he's a "sinner" in a "sin city" already so i guess if you can't beat them, join them.

And yeah he should be straightforward cause it's an effective way to grow your site but transparency would be optimal for the long run. And that's why i'd personally never buy articles on a freelancing platform like Fiverr

The client tried to fool me by placing an order that is not covered in the gig description. My choice was to decline it and get penalized by the platform or to invest a reasonable amount of time to process the inputs received and to fullfill the order. I do not consider this as fooling the client at all. The client is happy, so what's the issue?

You have to ask yourself this: If the client knew that they got AI-generated content, would they still be happy?

It doesn't matter if the request is realistic or not. You have a way of communicating with the client, and Fiverr, as a marketplace, has its algo that determines ranking based on that and on 10 million other metrics.

The bottom line is that your service wasn't a goof fit for what the client was looking for, so you gave them a product worth about $1 in exchange for their $20 instead of pointing it out and trying to reason with them.

I appreciate your ethical considerations. I wish the client would have the same when placing orders.

I doubt however that my service would not have been a good fit for both the customer and the platform. On the contrary, the platform made its money and kept its reputation, the client is happy with the text he would not have received (at least not from me) at such a low price if I rejected and be penalized for it.

Not sure about your hourly rates but 10 minutes of my time have a value greater than $1 as you see it.

If the client is happy with what he received, i dont see what the big deal is. What does it matter if the article was written by a Harward graduate, an AI, or a child slave labor from China.

And yes, Fiverr will penalize you in a way if you cancel an order. Your cancelled orders ratio goes up, maybe you stop ranking or something if you cancel too many orders.

When i was selling on Fiverr i would usually be very generous in trying to convince a customer to get something else when one would order my gig expecting something different than what im offering. Yeah, i remember that.
