Anyone in the ad or marketing industry can help me out?

When someone leaves the ad industry to go and do their own thing and make content such as movies, webtoons, webnovels, music etc.,
what are these people called? Independent content creators? What if they are getting sponsored to make the content? Are they still independent content creators or is it more accurate to call them freelancers? Content freelancers? Independent content freelancers?

content creators is the umbrella term. no need for independent prefix.
those who make music would be music writers
those who do webtoons would be animators
webnovels would be writers/animators
movies would be cinematographers or filmmakers
sponsored to make content doesnt change anything in the vernacular other than you're getting paid
i wouldnt call any of them as freelancer but thats just me

Thanks for the reply!
But the term content creator seems to be something new even though the tasks/work have been around a very a long time.
So I learned that the difference between advertising and content marketing is that advertising is based on "interruption" whereas content marketing is based on "permission".

So if you are a content creator, does that imply you are not working for a major advertising company utilizing the traditional model of "interruption"? Content creators are therefore people who are utilizing the new approach of "permission" even if they are getting sponsored or paid for making content they are not advertisers? Would this be a correct assessment?

seems to be an issue of semantics. what's the context of it all?

i look at pewdiepie, one of the biggest youtube content creators who has multiple revenue streams and advertising channels as a content creator just like the random profile with 100 subscribers showcasing his life in pakistan.

both are content creators. just at different levels of success. whether one runs ads for his business doesnt change his title.

we as internet marketers all wear many hats. does that guy call himself a webdesigner, web master, vps administrator, ppc technician, seo technician, media buyer, article writer.....etc. end of the day you could be wearing 20 different hats when it comes to running your business.

consider when it comes to the guy selling pizza's. he's a pizza maker but wears multiple hats too to manage his online presence and advertise online. do we call him a content creator or advertiser? all that stuff comes with running a successful business. to his ppc network he is an advertiser. and to the rest of the world \he is simply a \restaurant owner.

That is a great question! These content creators (without advertising purpose) usually achieve a great marketing point in the industry. I guess we call movie creators or music producers without marketing purposes artists. Of course they are not like freelancers in popular freelancing platforms such as https://perfectlancer.com. However, i see freelance artists, actors, etc. on Perfectlancer but they purposely sign in to earn money by this career. That's totally different.
