Bluetooth headphones?

Found this comment somewhere on the internetas:

My brilliant son tells me that if whichever pod you put in first activates the microphone as well as the speaker, as opposed to just the speaker on the second one inserted. So when I put in the right one first (always the first to die), the microphone + speaker uses up energy faster than the left (just speaker). Not sure if this is 100% correct, but makes sense enough.

It does make sense. My earbuds can work independently, but the right one is the "master" one. From now on I'll try to plug in and activate the left one first, and then the right one. Hopefully the mic stays inactive, and this evens out the battery usage.

Stupid. I should have a way to control what's active and what's not, and a way to check the fucking remaining battery on each earbud independently at any time.

And now we come to the "you get what you pay for" part of the thread, I guess :p

Next time be richer, buy the expensive top of the line crap...

So I tested the earbuds. They're supposed to last for 8 hours at 50% volume.

For some reason they started with 80% battery. I used them at 100% volume throughout. I also turned on the left earbud first, and then the right one.

At some point they dropped to 50% battery, but then went up to 60%, which I found weird.

After 1 hour of play they dropped to 20%, and I picked them up, they went up to 30%, then 40%, then down to 20% again.

Then they went to 10% and I got the phone beep sound that they're at 10%, but then they went up to 20%, then up to 30%. They do this a little bit, and every time they go up to 20/30% and drop down to 10% again, I get the annoying beep telling me they're at 10% battery.

It seems when I pick them up the battery suddenly increases for a few seconds. I had them on the table next to me throughout the process, not in my ears. Only the last 15 minutes I had them in my ears...

Fuck goddamnit, after 1 hour and 16 minutes the right earbud turned off.

The left earbud still has 60% battery. So the left earbud is fine, but the right one has a problem. If the left earbud went from 80% to 60% after 1:15 hour, it means it would give about 4 hours of work at 100% volume, as advertised.

I never really tested the earbuds like this until now. I'm wondering if the right earbud was faulty from the beginning.

On Monday I'm gonna call and explain the problem, and see if I have a warranty and if I can do something.

So I did one last try, to where I connect the earbuds to the phone for "Audio only". So not for calls, but only audio transmission. I thought maybe them connecting for calls somehow activates the microphone in the right earbud, and that drains it so fast.

So I charge them for a few days there were in the charger. Earlier I go out to buy something, half way there the right earbud turns off. Not even 30 minutes probably. I come home and I check, the left earbud has 90% battery, the right one is at 40%. But it's not at 40%, because it's fucked up and so that 40% will quickly become 10% after a few minutes of usage. It's showing wrong stats I guess.

So unfortunately I had to call the company/site where I bought these from, and I have to fill something out and send it to them, then they'll send someone to pick up the earbuds (like a delivery guy from one of those companies or whatever), and then they'll either get them fixed, or send me new ones, is what the girl said.

I don't think I'll pay anything to return the earbuds, but I'll probably pay to receive them back, or to receive new ones. And I betcha if they give me new ones they won't have white ones, and I'll have to take black ones, just to give a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth. And then the black ones are gonna last for 17 years, so that the bitter taste and desire for white ones remains with me forever (if you have a shit ton of money you don't have to worry about this shit, you just go buy new ones and throw the old ones away or in a drawer somewhere. Fuck I wish I was filthy rich) :p

Anyway, what I've learned from all this is that these bluetooth earbuds are fragile little shits, and if you're gonna buy some I would recommend you go to to a store near you and buy them, locally, face to face. That way if you need to return them or something you can go there and do it face to face and return them straight away. And so you won't have the expense to return them or to receive new ones etc.

So there. I'm not really pissed. I guess shit happens as far as the earbuds go, so I won't say fuck you Sonicgear! And also the site where I purchased the earbuds were very polite and willing to help me return them and everything, so I can't hate on them either. Shit happens right...

I sent the previous ones back. They sent a guy to pick them up. Then I filled out some form digitally for the return. They accepted the return and that the product was damaged or whatever. And then they sent me back new earbuds, they just arrived today.

Good for them. Really, the website I bought the earbuds from really acted correctly on this one all the way. Bravo.

I charged them fully, and then went for a 30 minute walk listening to music at full blast. When I came home, the left earbud had 90% battery, and the right one 80%.

A 10% difference in battery isn't necessarily a problem, as the right earbud does pick up more of the slack I guess, being the master earbud. Still, at 80% after 30 minutes means 60% after an hour, and 20% after 2 hours. That's far from the "8 hours at 50% volume and 4 hours at 100% volume" the earbuds promise on the box.

So I don't know. Are we headed towards the same fucking problem in 2 months? If it happens again, I'll consider the earbuds defective by design and stay away from Sonicgear for anything going forward.

Oh I also contacted Sonicgear on their official website a few weeks ago, and I received no reply. So they're already in the negative for me...

Get a pair of Jaybird Vista 2 if these dont work out for you. Bern using mine on and off for a couple of years without any problems. Long battery time too.

I can't. She has banned photo taking for a while. Says I took too many photos and she's sick of it. Said if I take one more photo, she'll gauge my eyes out in my sleep.

I use beats in-ear headphones which are reasonably affordable and they’re very good- great sound at least for making phone calls, and compatible with most devices + easy to use/wear.

Right, I'm sure it is. But I'd rather them not be connected. Just, I can just picture a certain small annoyance.

Like the wire that connects them is laying on the back of your neck, and you sweat, and it gets wet, and... or you're wearing something and moving your head pushes and pulls the earbuds because of the wire.

Yeah... no... :D
