Just Became a US Citizen... Took Long Enough!

Well it finally bloody happened. I'm officially a yank now. I can finally go on holiday and do some much needed traveling. Literally have not been on a vacation outside of the country for over a decade. The last flight I was on was the one coming here 12 years ago. I hate flying so no loss there. It didn't really take that long though to be fair. I was just a lazy git and didn't apply until late 2019. As a permanent resident before that I didn't technically have to file to become a citizen as I could have lived and worked here indefinitely on that visa but travelling in and out of the country could have still posed a hassle if I came across the wrong kind of person.

Now that my wife and I both have a passport from the same country we feel much more comfortable travelling. Before we were too afraid of some border agent just having a bad day and refusing one of us entry to our partners country that we never bothered to travel. Feels like a huge weight has been lifted.

Now all I need is to head over to Costco and get a safe so I can put my two passports and money clip in there and feel like a spy lol! :D

Congratulations!

My wife is a permanent resident here as well. We haven't left the country since she became a permanent resident (we like travelling, too), but we get not wanting to leave because the border agents can be a pain sometimes.

At least now you won't have to renew your green card every 10 years!

You know, Sealand used to do passports prior to 1997 that you could've easily purchased. Then you would've had three passports. ;)

It was supposed to come out of my paypal automatically, it always did. I sent a support ticket and asked why that had changed and no one knew why it was no longer set up on a subscription. I didn't cancel it so it was really odd.

At the end of the day though I don't sell any services here or need to use the signature. I have paid close to a grand to the forum and contributed threads that brought some traffic in so I figure I have paid my dues. If I had a subscription level or had to have use a feature that required me to be a VIP I would have probably renewed but as it stands I don't see the need.

I am in the exact same boat. Applied for my citizenship in March 2022, waiting on this last step so I can be free! However, I have traveled many times outside the US. I did come across asshole border agents giving me a hard time, but I haven't done anything lol. They can't just revoke my permanent residence status without a good enough reason. So far so good, but since I applied 5 months ago, I am not traveling. I am going to wait to get my citizenship first before I go out of the country now.
 
Welcome, officially, to the goddamn asylum brother! Be sure to blow a bunch of stuff up on July 4th as you drink beers and eat hamburgers

My interview lasted all of 10 minutes, the agent was super chill and we even joked around a bit too about how early in the morning it was. We had a bad experience once coming into the UK. I was fine as I have a British passport but they gave my wife a really hard time and she was standing there for what felt like a fucking hour. The agent was an utter douche but she finally got through and after that we vowed not to go through that again.

I never ever traveled outside since coming here 2009 so my application was a breeze, as long as you don't travel within 6 months of the date of applying its cool, or it may even be 6 months before the date of the interview. The hard part is over, my attorney said that they have a different mandate when it comes to getting a resident status as opposed to the citizenship. they are looking for reasons to deny resident status or at least reasons why they could say no and when it comes to citizenship its more of a case of they are actively trying to push people through unless there is a glaring problem.
