Why does google maps SEO seem so much more random?

Some common statements:

- Website authority matters
- Landing page matters
- Citations matter
- Reviews Matter
- Local backlinks matter
- Posting often on your gbp matters...

If the above is true, why is it that there are so many times a google business profile is ranking first on a wide radius without doing well on many of these things?

Here's an example. This website has barely any referring domains, is hardly an optimized website. Has next to no citations, doesn't post to the Google business profile. All it has is a good amount of reviews, but it outranks everyone in this service industry in this city with a DR of 2.

You said it! But, we can't come to the conclusion that "Reviews Matter" because I've seen many listings with a few reviews outrank those with plenty of reviews.

When it comes to GBP SEO, you need to do everything you mentioned above and some other things to retain the top position.

Quality reviews with indirect keywords matter. I have seen many people ranking out of reviews only. In rare cases, extra activity is also a requirement
