What can I do with this expired domain?

Hey guys, I need your advice, okay so I got a dropped domain name (thought it was an aged domain) with the hope of flipping it. Now I see it is a dropped domain name, I feel it might not be sellable.

So I am looking to build a site around it but now I am not quite sure what content to create on it to avoid issues with ranking later on, as this domain was an official business website that offered a marketing software that helps with some workflow of sorts.
On mangools it says it has a domain authority of 21 and a page authority of 26. There are no actual keywords it ranks for, just about 48 active backlinks (most pointing to the homepage), branded anchor texts and the competitors include some popular sites like outbrain, coschedule and hubspot.

I am not quite sure how to approach this. But it belongs to the business category and marketing as the sub-category, I was wondering if it will pass for anything related to digital marketing.

Links going to the home page is a really good thing imo, and branded anchors is something I would jump on. But only 48 backlinks? that's nothing, unless almost all of them are high authority. You should plug it into ahrefs to get a better picture, mangools is a low tier competitor.

What did you pay for it?

What type of links (coming from articles or user generated links such as forums/blog comments)?

What kind of websites are linking to your domain? are they authorities?

How many times was the domain dropped in the past?

Did you check the archive history?

If the domain checks out, you can build a site on it but 48 links won't really do much. They still give you somewhat of a foundation, but I would go for nothing under 200 RD (even that is low) when building a site.

As for the use case, restore the site to its previous state. Then grow it from there. However, it's a wash man. Find a better domain and use this one as a PBN.

Hey Thanks for your response bro. Okay I guess I need to use Ahrefs, but it's beyond my budget now. I have been playing around with tools like mangools and semrush.

I am definitely not looking to rank number 1 on this without building my own links but its a better start than registering a brand new domain. Plus, I don't know or want to create PBNs, I have heard bad things about it especially if one doesn't know what he's doing.

For this, I just checked properly and found out that its actually 234 active ******** links and 172 no follow links from 66 referring domains. A few are articles, others are directories, 404 error pages, I saw some were Chinese (that worries me, is there something I can do). Not really much, couldn't check through everything

Nope they aren't.

From what you have said the domain is below average. You can't get anything for $79 that is worth building a site on these days. If the links aren't coming from good sites then why waste your time.

You said it yourself, SAAS company in marketing. That's the niche. The perfect use case is to restore the site and build it out forward. However, I will advise you to write the domain off and look for something better. It doesn't have good links and you don't know what to do with the niche. Putting effort into learning a niche for a domain is only a viable choice if the domain has a strong link profile.
